question for moms of kids with tubes

we're halfway through June and have already managed to lose all of the plugs for Liam's left ear.  *sigh*  In the past, I've purchased them at Children's (or at Children's Express care), because we happened to be at one of those 2 places when I needed some.  Is there anywhere else to get them?  Presby?  Or, if you've used the kind they sell in retail stores, do you think they're just as good?  I'd be perfectly happy picking up a set at target if they are effective.

thanks!

  • Don't judge me, we don't use ear plugs.  He NEVER wanted to wear them and doesn't seem to have a problem at a swimming pool.

No judgment at all here!  Liam hates them, that's actually how we just lost the last one over the weekend, he must have yanked it out at some point, but I can't find it in the yard anywhere Sad  I just feel pressured to continue using it because he has continued to get infections even since the tubes, blah.

  • Back when madi had hers in..... she would not keep the ones we bought at CHP in. So I actually got that bright orange ones from grocery store that are like putty and you just mold into the ear. Worked fine.
  • We also used the bright orange putty type ones.  They worked well in keeping the water out, but they did fall out a few times.  We weren't very diligent about using them, and then I read that you really only need to be concerned about swimming in untreated water, so we stopped using them.  Although I know that poor Liam has had a lot of recurring infections, so I would probably continue to use them for now!

Ditto this! We stopped using ours since Ben hates them; I think we may try again when we go to the ocean this July, but Ben hasn't had any infections since like Liam has. Good luck!

  • this were successful for us http://www.earbandit.com/go2/puttybuddies.cfm The ones from childrens I used in bath b/c they never stayed in. You could do the headband thing as well (on the site). I tried that with Caileigh and it never worked. I think I still have them though if you want to try it with Liam before you buy one. With Eamon the dr said don't have to use plugs (different dr than the girls) but I do notice that he rubs his ears alot if he gets water in them so I'm sure he doesn't like it. I doubt he would tolerate plugs.

How time flies! Caileigh (9), Keira (6) & Eamon (3)

  • We never used them either, we just rinsed his hair with a washcloth and he was too young to really be swimming last summer. I swear that I read somewhere that you could use cotton balls coated with Vaseline.

  • I found the putty buddy type things at target last night, so I'm going to give those a shot (much cheaper than buying the ones from CHP!) and hopefully they won't bother him as much, so maybe he'll leave them alone & we'll stop losing them!  Sheila-thanks for the offer, if he continues to yank these out, I might take you up on it to try the headband.
