Saving money help!

I am dying to be able to save a lot of money to help my hubby with saving for a house down payment....but don't make a ton at my job (that I love!)...does anybody have any tips or tricks to saving  money? ex: coupons or extra side jobs....anything??

Re: Saving money help!

  • My husband and I lived on his income alone and banked mine. We also budgeted our monthly bills to include paying ourselves as well. We only purchase groceries twice a month (on pay day) with the exception of dairy and produce. It cuts down on the extras in the basket. Good Luck!!
  • Coupons can save a LOT of money. Where do you do your grocery shopping? I shop at publix and love iheartpublix.com for coupon match ups. You may want to look at totallytarget.com or hip2save.com. Does your savings problem come from not making enough money or wasting money? Consider posting a budget and we can help you "find" money.

Absolutely post a budget if you want help 'finding' money like PP said. I'm going to add to her coupon matchup sites- I love Southernsavers.com Even if you don't live in her area, they are still really helpful to get great deals at Target, Walgreens CVS and several grocery stores.

  • Get a second job. That is how I bought my first place by myself. I bartended and made a ton of "extra" money which all went straight to savings.
  • There's a time/money trade off for things like coupons. I have a job I love, and it pays well enough, but it takes up so many hours of my life that to choose to spend time clipping coupons isn't worth the money I would save. My time is worth more than that (both in dollars and sanity). For some people it is.

Look for the things in your life that have tradeoffs that make sense. Cutting back on spending at movies or eating out might make a good impact, but not cost your quality time with your H or friends/family/etc. Cutting back cable will save money, and then you can enjoy more books or walks and improve your health! There are a million ways.
