bachelorette party question

I think every b-party I've been to all of the guests chipped in for the transportation (limo, party bus, etc) but I was younger. is this normal? I know my b-party was not that way but I'm the matron of honor in my friend's wedding and the shower is in the morning and the b-party at night. Some of the other girls want to split the limo amongst us, others want to ask for people to chip in... what are your thoughts?

ETA- FWIW the Knot says it is ok to ask but the knot says all kinds of weird stuff so I'm not sure I believe it.

Re: bachelorette party question

  • I been to a lot of B parties the past 5 years as either a guest or a part of the bridal party and always chipped in for everything. I always look it as a fun night out that I would be spending money anyway.

  • Look at it on a bigger scale...  Let's say you rented an oceanfront beach house for the b-party weekend and every attendee was staying over. Would you ask only the bridal party for funds and let everyone else freeload?

If people are going to benefit from the service of the limo, then they should contribute. If they are driving solo and meeting you at the fun, then I wouldn't expect them to pay.

This exactly.  Most folks know what's up when it comes to a bachelorette party too.  So I doubt it'll come as a shock when everyone is asked to pony up.

  • Agreed with the above!

I have also had it told in advance that we will be paying x amount for the limo, x amount for the hotel, and everyone graciously throws money in.

    Have fun!

  • I agree- all who use the limo should pay.  Just try as best you can to give a dollar amount up front- even if you have to say something like 'if we get 10 girls, it's this much; if we get 15 girls, it's this much...'- I know for me having at least an idea of what the total would be is important before I commit.

I'm just throwing this out there, but I used Limo's Today in Bensalem for my wedding and for another bachelorette party I went to a few years ago.  They are so freaking nice and really reasonable.  If you need a rec, I just wanted to pass that along.

Thanks... I've been calling around and I have not been impressed. I called one place and they put me on hold for 5 minutes after answering and saying "can you please hold?" and not waiting for an answer... I sat here and wanted to tell them how rude it was but wouldn't give more than 5 minutes of my time!
