P/T Job

Hi Ladies,

I have been looking for a p/t job the last few weeks to build up savings/pay down debt faster.

I'm requesting later evenings and am open all weekend, but I keep getting rejected.

I am wondering if anyone has had this problem trying to find p/t work. I have a Bachelors degree in business and maybe they think I'm over qualified... Should I withhold this info?  Any p/t work suggestions?

TIA!

Re: P/T Job

  • I don't know what you will find in the evenings with a business degree other than maybe managing a retail store, but they may not want you part time. Honestly, I've heard you can make excellent $ delivering pizza on the evenings/weekends. Get yourself a GPS unit once you get the job though!

I don't know that I would withhold the information about your degree, that shouldn't disqualify you from a part time job....

  • Try a customer service call center...they have late shifts.

  • I have a bachelors degree in business management, and put it to use by selling Tastefully Simple.  There are other home party companies out there, but it allows me to use my degree and set my own schedule. You could look into something you enjoy, and do home parties with it.

Another thing I looked into was bartending. There are late night and weekend shifts for that too.

My husband is a pizza delivery driver atm, and while there are times he can bring home a pile of money, there are also nights it's so slow he just makes his hourly wage and that's it. The summer in particular is awful for making good cash because most people are grilling or willing to drive to get their own pizza. The months with bad weather are the months he tends to do very well. Just keep that in mind if you're thinking "delivery driving will earn me money!". Bartending or serving will generally be more consistent.

I was going to suggest both of these as well. I used to bartend part time but quit so that I could start my family. Once I had my son, I started selling Pampered Chef to supplement my income. Like PP said, it works well. The biggest thing for me is that I can set my own schedule.

  • Bartending or restaurant work?

DH works a PT job 4 nights/week. He works from 7:30-4:30 at his day job and then waits tables from 6pm-whenever. He brings home about $600/week from his PT job and it all goes into savings.
