talk to me about Sandcastle, please :)

I'm full of questions today!

My BFF is coming into town, and we're taking Jake (5.5) and her son, who is 4.5, to Sandcastle.  I haven't been there since high school, so anything I should know?  I hate going to new places feeling unprepared.  Do I stash my stuff in a locker?  keep it with me?  will there be a lot for him to do?  Will I need to be prepared to go down slides with him?

Thanks :)

  • you're a braver soul than me! Not only because I shy away from anything involving a bathing suit, but I'm fairly certain you're going to have to go down the slides with Jake. He seems fairly adventureous and I bet he'll want to try a few; I just hope for your sake it isn't the big high slides!Smile

I would just take minimial stuff into the park and put it all in your bag and leave it at your towel / area. I think you can even take stuff into the park that fits a small cooler.

I bet you have fun though! The kid area is geared towards smaller kids like Liam's age, but I'm sure Jake will still have fun there. And there is the larger "wave" pool and the lazy river which he can do.

  • I'm not familiar with sandcastle and what all they have. But we've taken dd to a couple water park type places. Can you check height requirements online? The place we went to last summer had a lot of kid stuff and small slides meant for just kids. The big slides dd was not tall enough to ride. Some had different requirements if you ride with an adult but she didn't meet that either. Dd is a shorty though! The indoor place we went to recently, she couldn't do the really big slides but they had kid ones that were decent size. She would slide down on her own but wanted one of us to go too. They also had a spray type playground and she wanted us in there with her too! But she could have done them on her own.

  • HA, yeah I'm sure he'll be the kid who wants to go down the slides!!  That's what i really can't tell from the site, even with the height requirement, if that's just solo riders or altogether? I guess we'll find out.

Are you sure they're tall enough for the slides? We had a season pass last year, and Jackson was way to short to ride the slides. He's too short for this year too. I think they need to be 48" to do the slides, and also be able to swim independently. I know Jake was in lessons, but would he be able to swim to the side by himself? If not, he's not supposed to do slides.

We had a great time last year when we went though, just doing the wave pool and wet willies--Jackson loved the water slides and sprinklers in that part.

that's a relief to me, I had no desire to go down the slides...the site wasn't very clear to me as to whether they had to be 48" tall (he's not) to go down period, or if they could be shorter and be accompanied by an adult.  I'll be perfectly content if he & his little friend splash in the pool and smaller areas the whole time! Cool

If they were allowed to ride with an adult I would think they would list 2 heights. From what I've seen there are separate heights. like ,must be 48" or 45" with adult.

Big slides elsewhere seem to have just 1 height regardless. It's more the in between slides that might have a shorter requirement with adult. I doubt you'd be able to take him down big ones (so you're probably safe!)

  • You can take alcoholic beverages in the lazy river. This might not be a tip you'll need with the kids, but it's a must know tip in my book. :)

I never knew this, and I went a ton last year. I must remember this for future visits!
