I used to post on this board before I became a SAHM and now that I am back working (have been for about a year) I figured I would stop by.
I am am in a little bit of a dilemma, I was contacted by a recruiter from a big company yesterday about a contract position, the contract is long term (9 months plus)and the recruiter said that the manager she is working with does hire their contract workers if it is a good fit. It pays $4 more an hour than I am making now, and it would allows us to get my Husbands benefits which are leaps and bounds above what we have now. It would also allow us to pay off the rest of our debt more quickly and save at the same time.
On paper it all looks fantastic, but here is the actual dilemma, I have been temping with a company for a year, they have told me they want me to work here, but they have yet to hire me, and it always seems to be some excuse or it gets brushed off. I love it here, but I also need to think about my families financial future, I just am nervous to go from one temp position to another. We are also currently TTC our 3rd baby, so it makes me nervous to leave and start somewhere new, but I feel like it would be stupid to pass up this opportunity.

Let's say you interview at the new place and get the job...so essentially you'd be moving from one temp spot to another.
BUT you'd have higher pay, better benefits, pay off debt, and perhaps a better shot at a FT postion?
Look into the new job for sure you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Sounds like your current job is stringing you along anyway...they are taking advantage of your lower paying job and not having to offer you benefits...if you're working so hard for them, what incentive do THEY have to make you FT? Other than you're a good employee, they have no other incentive.
My H thinks I should take it if offered, however, with my Job I am currently in there is no end date, and essentially, I have been told that as long as they are happy with me, I will be here. In the position that I am in it would be a huge detriment to them to let me go, it takes at least 6 months of training to "know" the ins and out of my job, and there is no one on staff who is trained in this position who has the time to train some one else or to take over the duties of my position until someone is fully trained. I went on vacation for 2 days and it took 3 people to cover my position.
I Love what I do here and the people I work with, if I could just get a light at the end of the long temping tunnel I would be less frustrated and I would absolutely stay. This is a company with a lot of lifers, IE people who started and will end their careers here. There is a gentleman out int he plant who has been here for 47 years, and there are many like him.
I somewhat hope that if I get an offer it may force their hand some and they will realize that if I am gone they are essentially screwed and so they will make an offer to keep me.
Who knows...I hate the politics of employment!
