CC payments/credit score

Hi, hoping for a little help with this..

DH and I have 1 credit card with a balance.  The balance is 3,500 and the limit is 4,300.  We really want to get this down.  The minimum payment is usually around $80 and I try to pay about $150 per month.

I'm really hoping by getting this card lower it will help to raise DH's credit score.  He made some bad choices as a 18-20 year old and it really affected his credit. He is an authorized user on my cards and his name is on both of our vehicles, but it just doesn't seem to be helping the score any.

I had a coworker tell me she was told it is better for your credit score to make multiple payments per month on the cc rather than one lump payment.  Is there any truth to this?

It doesn't matter. Credit bureaus/scores get updated only when the banks and lenders send them new information to report. Typically any changes to a credit report/score take about 30-60 days to post.

If his score doesn't seem to be changing, I recommend you pull the actual reports. Each person is legally entitled to one free credit report from each of the bureaus per year.

The bureaus are Experian, Equifax, and Transunion.

I agree, it shouldn't matter how often you pay, since your CC company reports your balance and payments monthly.

Also, I second getting his report(s) if you haven't already. You should make sure there's nothing on there that's affecting his score that you don't know about, so that you can correct it if it's false or work on it if it's true. To get the free one you're entitled to, go to annualcreditreport.com
