Re: BasicTalk home phone service?

  • I hadn't heard of it, so I googled. I know you're hoping for personal reviews, but I thought this boded well:

  • Haven't heard of BasicTalk- I'm going to read the link from PP.

I have heard of Ooma. My dad and brother both have it at their houses. They get great service with it, and I started checking it out because I don't want to up our cell phone minutes now that I'm staying at home. Ooma does cost to get started- I think it's like $150, but  then it's yours- and you only pay taxes every month. For my dad that's $3.53. Includes unlimited talk, voicemail, and you can pair your cell phone to it apparently (saw that online yesterday).

Obviously the start up cost is higher for Ooma, but if you are planning on having it for more than a year, it has paid for itself over BasicTalk. So I thought I would throw that out there as an option for you!

Thanks for sharing this. We don't have a landline, but now our kids are having baby sitters every once in awhile and one of them does not have a cell phone. So this would be great to have for emergencies. Plus, good to have even when the kids are older and don't have cells of their own yet.

Do you know if it is available nationwide?

I believe it's available everywhere in the US. We live in Houston- it's here. My brother lives about 2 hours outside of Minneapolis, he has it. And my parents live in small town South Dakota in the Black Hills and they have it as well. My husband and I thought that it would be good too for when we have babysitters in the future, as well as for me to use when I'm home as opposed to using our cell phone minutes (we have a small plan, and to get to the next level of minutes it would be $20. This is going to be a lot cheaper in the long run)
