breastpump rental?

Hello everyone!  My breastpump sounds like it's dying and just hasn't been pumping the way it should.  Eric has been out of town with the kids since Tuesday and my overachieving right boob still feels full no matter how much I pump.   Luckily the kids come home tonight so I will get to nurse Elsey which will at least help the discomfort.  The pump I have is a Lansinoh double electric that I bought when I was pregnant with Keefer 4 years ago and it has powered through a year of pumping while at work with Keefer and now 8 months with Elsey.  She is down to three feedings a day now so I don't anticipate having to pump for much more than another month or two.  It seems like a waste of money to buy a new one at this point but the rentals I was able to find online would cost me more than buying a new Lansinoh pump. Anyone have any ideas where I could rent one for cheap?  Thanks in advance!!!

Re: breastpump rental?

  • Did you replace any of the parts? I am not familiar with that brand, but I know the Medela one has these membranes that wear out and need replaced to improve suction.  Also, try calling the company. They may have some troubleshooting tips that could help you get through the end of you year of BFing without any additional cost.
  • I was going to make the same suggestion as Amanda, I had something similar happen with my Medela...replaced the membranes & it powered through the last few months with Liam.

Thanks ladies!  I did replace the membranes but I can literally hear the motor in the pump sputtering.  I'm going to try to give the company a call though.  That is a great idea!

  • I have one that I just listed on Craigslist...it's the Lansinoh double electric with battery option....I was asking $50 with a box and half of disposable breast pads from Lansinoh as well...and I'm willing to go lower...if you'd want to buy one instead

I don't have the need for it anymore and won't need it anytime in the future.  Not sure where to rent, but I've heard usually your local lactation consults can offer rentals as well

  • DON'T spend $!!!

    Two options:

    1) call your insurance company - you should be able get a free one from them, due to new regulations. They will just call your OB to get a script from them to issue you one. I did this when I had Sean. Super easy - took about a week to come.

    2) Stop by my house on your way home some evening. You can have my old one (from when Gavin was a baby). It still works - sounds a bit rough but it worked great for the 12 weeks I pumped with Sean. I ended up getting the insurance one bc I thought my old one was dying when, in reality, it was a supply issue. (ie. The new one didn't work any better.) Seriously, my Medela was a true champ and I don't doubt it will see you through a few more months! I would give you the newer one, but I ended up selling it since I had only used it once. Angel

And I am done having babies!

You can rent them from Magee.  I did that for the first couple of months after DD was born.

Are you sure you're done Wink?  I banged mine around a bit and it actually is working better.  Who knew throwing it on the ground would help?  ha.  I missed the free pump via insurance boat because she was born a little too early.  She would've had to be born 60 days or less prior to January 1 with my plan. I might be in touch to pick yours up though.

This would be perfect especially if it is compatible with the parts I already have.  Can you email me?  abbigale.keefer at gmail.com  Thanks!
