dreft

Originally I was just going to use Tide free and clear for the baby clothes...but decided to use dreft for the first wash of everything. OMG...it smells amazing. Is this the "newborn" smell people talk about? My DH and I can't stop sniffing it haha.

  • I know! We met with our pediatrician today though, and she recommended washing first with Dreft so we did.

  • It must be because my newborn smells like spoiled milk :P.

We use Tide Free and Clear because we all have sensitive skin and I'd rather not subject her to scented laundry detergent.

  • I don't know :-(

I have skin allergies to certain detergents, which make me break out in eczema all over my body. It is a genetic allergy that comes from my grandma (which is how we figured out what was causing it). So I washed baby's items in the same detergent I wash mine in so that he wouldn't have a reaction.

  • Ahhh, I love it! I bought the Tide Free, but went to my Moms house one day and used a blanket she washed in dreft. I was sold! Mmmm it smells so good. I hate that it's 16$ a bottle!

  • I've never smelled Dreft. I heard others say that it was really perfumey so I just stuck to Tide F&C.

  • We use Tide F&C, since L has really sensitive skin and baby eczema. She smells pretty awesome all on her own. I remember my sister using Dreft and it was a bit overpowering for me. Even the baby lotions and bath products smell a bit strongly, IMO. I'd just be careful with fragrance heavy baby products. Hopefully your LO won't have sensitive skin issues.

I've heard it smells great but we've never used it. Regular detergent works fine. Actually, now we use the same detergent we use for our cloth diapers.
