Do you prefer carpet or hardwood flooring? What do you have?

Re: QOTD 6/28
Hardwood flooring. Growing up with allergies (dust), it was easier to keep it under control with NO carpet.
We have hardwood all throughout our upstairs (master bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room & nursery) and have carpet in the downstairs bedroom and den which we asked for. I sometimes wish our kitchen was tiled but because our kitchen/dining room/living room has an open floor plan it would look stupid i feel for the flooring to not be consistent.
I think it depends on the room. I prefer hardwood for living spaces but carpet for bedrooms.
We have laminate in our living room and dining room and tile in our kitchen. Our updatairs, where three of the bedrooms are is carpeted.
Hardwood floor! I absolutely HATE carpeting, I think it's dirty and terrible for allergies.
Right now, we have carpet through our entire townhouse, except the kitchen and bathrooms which are tile. Luckily, we should be moving soon and I can't wait to find a place that doesn't have carpet.
Our old 1 bedroom apartment was hardwood and my mom's house is all hardwood, and I miss that so much!
I like the majority of a house to be carpet. I love being barefoot so walking around on plush carpet is much more appealing to me than a hardwood floor. Also, I hate sweeping. I never feel like you get all the dust off the floor.
My house is carpet in all living areas and bedrooms. There is hardwood in the diningroom and vinyl that looks like tile in both bathrooms and the kitchen. We have an unfinished basement that is cement.
In the future, I want to tile the bathrooms and put in hardwood in the kitchen.
I grew up with hardwood floors. Vacuuming is just something I never mastered. I'm slowing giving in, it was originally H's chore, but at this point, I'm happy if he keeps up with dishes.
We have all carpet besides the tile in the kitchen/dining room and master bathroom, vinyl in the second bathroom upstairs and laundry room, and our foyer and half bathroom downstairs is hardwood floors.
I like them both for different reasons. I agree with Siepel that I like carpet to walk around barefoot on. But for looks, I prefer what Willy said...hardwoods everywhere but the bedrooms and do carpet there. H and I don't have bad allergies, so it's not a big deal.
We're living in an apartment, so we have no control over our flooring. Right now the bathrooms are laminate, the kitchen and entryway are tile, and the rest of the apartment is carpet.
Hardwood floors. I have terrible allergies and carpet holds the allergens in. I have trouble sleeping when we go to hotels because of the carpets. When I go to friends' houses with carpets I suffer also.
One friend has an area rug in her living room and a cat. I am super allergic to cats. A few months ago, I was sitting on the floor while I was there. I was miserable the entire next day until it all got out of my system.
Carpets are more plush and comfy to walk on barefoot, but it's a luxury I can't have.
