Would you call the doctor?

Long before I got pregnant, I was diagnosed with endometriosis on my utesacral ligament. It's basically a useless ligament in women (men, it is what holds the testes in place). Every time I would get AF about 5 days ahead of time I would get sharp on and off pains in that area. It always felt like I was being stabbed.

My doctor never went to remove it because he said it should go away once we got pregnant. I'm now just short of 11 weeks and this started today - and it's SHARP. Technically, I know what this is, and we already checked to make sure the pregnancy isn't ectopic.

I don't want to take an unnecessary trip to the ER or doctor's office. Should I wait the weekend and see if it goes away and call on Monday if it doesn't, or would you be calling today?

Re: Would you call the doctor?

  • it could be that. it could be RLP. it could be lots of pregnant related things. your body has to do a lot of stretching and pulling to accommodate. so no, i wouldn't call.

  • I had sharp pains (usually only when I was at work - I worked 12 hour days) and I called the on-call doctor around 16 weeks. He blew me off and told me to take 2 Tylenol, but I could go to the ER "If I felt like it." I also called once before at 13 weeks and the nurse told me it was probably just RLP and to drink some water.

At my u/s at 19w5d is when we found the mass that I had to have removed. This is what was causing me pain.

Based off of my own personal history now, I won't take sharp pains lightly (minor tugs and aches are different). Although this is extremely rare, I would call. However, they are likely going to leave the decision up to you about whether or not to go in. Only you know how sharp the pain really is.

ETA: The time I called at 16w, I was in tears from the sharp pain. To give you a gauge.

Well this is new. After typing out this post, I got what can only be described as a catastrophic nose bleed. It still bleeding although not as heavy. It seriously rushed and gushed down my face. I never get nose bleeds. Ever. I look like I got in a fight

I would say after this, you should call or go in. It won't hurt to be safe.

The second I got the nosebleed sort of controlled I called. Nurse said she was goi g to check with the doctor and call me back. Her advice for the mosebleed was to go to an urgent care. Lol. I'm assuming it is somehow related to the pregnancy.

Call if you think it would ease your mind. Likely they'll tell you to put your feet up and drink water.

  • Nosebleeds tend to be more common during pregnancy.  It can cause the blood vessels to expand and you have an increased blood supply.

  • I've definitely had sharp pains like that, especially in late 1st and early 2nd tri. Also, I've had a few random nose bleeds, and bleeding gums. It kinda comes with the territory, but if you are concerned, definitely call your Dr.

  • I talked to my doctor about sharp pains I had during my pregnancy and they were not in the right spot to be RLP. I totally freaked another doctor in the practice out and she had me come back the next day and see my actual doctor. She knew my history and said it was most likely end pains.

I waited until my next appointment to talk to the doctor but it was only a few days away. I would say that it doesn't hurt to talk to your doctor but if your next appointment is too far away for comfort feel free to call and set up an extra appointment if only for peace of mind.
