We just made a huge payment towards DH's SLs!
DH wasn't able to and/or didn't want to make interest payments on his SLs for the first 7 years he was in school (ungergrad + grad), so there was a lot of accrued interest for us to start working on when we got married. We're still in school for a couple more years, so his loan is in deferment and the interest hasn't capitalized. So we've been making interest-only payments for the last 9 months.
Yesterday, we decided to get serious about these loans before we start saving for a house, so we put our entire house fund towards the loan, and we're throwing any extra money we have at it. This month, that was enough to pay off the interest accrued and start in on the principal! We're still a few years away from being able to pay off the whole loan, but this still feels so good. ![]()

Very nice! Good work!

"You know you're in love when you don't want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." - Dr. SeussPaying off my FI student loans currently is one of the greatest feelings financially I have had! Getting past all of the interest was the most aggravating part. It will still be tough to do but knowing that you are paying on the loan itself makes it a lot easier to swallow.
Congratulations!
