Hi Lala!
Your a Cranberry girl, right? I saw your daughter did VBS this week. I just wondered if it was my VBS...the Everywhere Fun Fair at CCUPC. I was the one up front talking to a puppet and dancing like a loon. :-)
Re: lala5507 - VBS Question
Oh wait...I just read elsewhere that you are in the west. So, not mine. :-)
I hope it went great, though. VBS is so much fun. And SOOOO exhausting.
Anything yours did that you loved (or hated?) I'm always looking for ideas on how to do things.
Yep, sorry we are West. I LOVED VBS as a kid so I was pretty excited that dd was old enough to go this year. They did a Kingdom Rock theme. I was a little disappointed in the crafts. I remember bringing home awesome crafts as a kid. Other than a torch they made for the show on the last day all they did was coloring pages.
The ending show was cute. They sang some songs, reviewed the Bible stories they learned and showed a slide show of pictures of the kids during the week.
They are also during an Advent VBS in November which my daughter is already excited for. I think that's a great idea to get the kids ready for Christmas in a non Santa way.
It sounds like you run an awesome VBS. I would totally send dd there if we lived closer!
This sounds awesome to participate in. Hellish to plan. But it would be great. I will have to keep it in mind. I do have fun. (When else can I turn teh sanctuary into a circus tent?!?!) I THINK our crafts were pretty cool. (necklaces, keychains, paper butterflies, etc.) It really is fun and I love doing it!
Yes, I agree. I would not want to orchestrate Advent VBS, but I would love to send my kids.
Your crafts sound fun! All dd did was coloring pages. I used to run summer camps and recreational programs for a local community so I guess it just bothers me to see a "camp" doing less than they could. I understand they have a tight budget, but there's a lot of great things you can do for little money.
Maybe this is a good opportunity to volunteer my services for next year...
Dena- my daughter DID go to your VBS and looooved it! And so did I as her mom:) The CD is a huge hit and I think I can sing all of the songs now too because it is in our car! The crafts were adorable-a mug that they could make a message to put in it and I loved the hands for prayer reminders (lala definitely good ideas if you are going to volunteer at your church next year!)! Honestly, I cannot say enough nice things about the camp from what we saw and what other parents have had to say! We will definitely do it again next year! Can't beat them having a blast AND learning about God! Please let me know if you are thinking about the advent camp!!
Yay, Lilly! Next year be sure to say hello to me. As I said, I'll be the one running around and potentially singing like a loon! You can even bust past the no parents signs. Just tell them you need to talk to the pastor in charge.
I'm so glad you liked it! And I'm sorry the songs are now stuck in YOUR head too! I've gone to bed singing "Step Right Up" in my head every night for 10 days! I love being able to give the CD out, though. It helps so much and the kids sounded GREAT singing. VBS really is one of my favorite parts of my job (although it is a love/hate thing some days!)
I will keep you posted on Advent. I doubt it will happen for this year, but who knows!
Thanks again.
PS - save the date for June 23-27...that is my best guess for when it will be next year. We usually start taking registrations May 1!
And Lala - I would totally volunteer to do crafts. There are tons of really cute and relatively inexpensive things. We average about $1.00/craft/person...obviously the mug cost more, but we also did a clown picture that cost very little, so it all balanced out. I guarantee your coordinator would rejoice if you called her now and said "hey, let me know when you are planning for next year. I'd love to be involved in planning the crafts." I also have lots of fun ideas/catalogs. There are so many fun things to go with almost any theme!
Oh I will definitely bust thru next time to say hi:) Oh I enjoy the songs-they are very catchy and the CD is awesome to have! The Advent camp would be great but I understand that is a lot! Please let me know anything else that comes up--we will definitely be interested in anything at CCUPC! Thanks Dena-great job!!
