Er bill and reading update

ER bill - I called the billing peeps last week. So, ex has H as guardian or something (guanter?) for Ryan. That's the bill they keep calling about, and will go on H's credit if it goes to collections. Since H is his guardian, I was able to change the address the bill was being sent. But ex is their daughter's guardian, so I can't do anything about that... but it will only affect the ex's credit not H's so I really don't care. Lady said since ex has sole custudy she needs to change this. I agree, but it won't happen until the court makes her... and we all know where we are at with that. H called ex and she said to sent it to her (I will be scanning it, emailing it to her and sending her a copy in the mail). She said she'll deal with it. Part of me would rather just pay it and pay less in CS until it's even. I don't TRUST her to pay it.

-------------

Lilly's reading - she's definitely struggling. She has her sight words down, but reading them is a different story. I had her on starfall.com playing, but if I'm not there, she'll just play and not read out loud, or just make up words to fit the pictures. She does the same with books.

Steph - I tried the bang game, and she called herself stupid when she didn't know a word and kept getting BANG. Oh we had a little talk about calling herself stupid, and I tried to emphasize how some things are easy (had her tell me what is easy for her, and she said painting!) and the things that are hard you have to work harder on.

SO I picked a book she liked and had her read it. I noted the words she struggled with (basically all non-sight words), and made flashcards. We worked 5 at a time, just a few minutes every few hours. When she learned all the flashcards, we reread the book. SO much better. And I noticed when she was really getting the flashcards her confidence went up and she was like yelling the words.  Then she read it to daddy, and she was so proud.  And I was proud too!

The plan - I'm buying some first grade books. I'll be mailing her flashcards and her mama said she will help her go through them. Her incentive to doing them is when she's done and knows them, we will sent her the book it goes to. Cross your fingers it works! I have 6 books coming in from amazon now.  Then hopefully ex will let Lilly call Jeff and read to him... and me

Re: Er bill and reading update

  • She's annoying! Didn't she say that she would take care of the ER bill awhile ago?

I love how much you and Jeff are helping Lilly. I hope she gains some confidence in herself! Poor baby.. you're not stupid!

Yep, but she keeps saying she's not getting the bills.  They probably have her old address (her parents house, next door).  Her dad still lives there, but doesn't talk to them.  When I called about the bills, they told me the address they had but I didn't write it down ( I have it at home).  When we started talking about Lilly's bill, they wouldn't tell me because Jeff's not the guardian on file... even though they told me when we were talking about Ryan's... I'm like dude you just read it to me 5 mins ago, just tell me again!!!  *headtodesk*  then I realized it doesn't matter we will get the bill for the one that will affect Jeff's credit and she said she'll pay for it.   If not, I'm suggesting we pay it and take $50 off CS until it's even...

I hope it helps.  It's the only thing I can think of to do and be 500 miles away.  Why her MOTHER can't make flashcards and help her is beyond me... she said she took her to sullivan.  really, you'd rather pay someone to work with her than do it yourself?!  And guess what?  It didn't help...

  • Ugh @ ex, I would send the letter where she needs to sign for it that way you have proof that she got it in case anything ever came up.

You are such a great step mom! Lilly is so lucky to have you.
