Need to vent

I am so stressed out and overwhelmed right now, I just need to vent.

We've spent so much money on medical and dental issues of mine in the last few months and I feel so guilty.  It's starting to put a stress on us financially and we haven't been able to do the things we are used to doing.  It's putting stress on both H and I, and we've been arguing more and more lately.  Yesterday, I had to get a root canal and replace an older crown which cost almost $900.  In May, I had another $1200 in dental work done.  Last week, I had three doctors appointments and with prescriptions, that totaled another $160.  I have two more doctors appointments this week that will cost another $110.  One of these appointments is for physical therapy for my back, shoulders, and neck pain caused by my chest size.  Since I am trying to get approval for a breast reduction, I need to keep going to that to prove I need it.  It's $55 every time I go and my primary care doctor said they would probably want me to go 3/week.  I'm hoping they will realize that going 3/week just isn't going to work for my schedule or pocket book, especially when physical therapy won't solve the issue.  I also had two MRI's and a CT Scan done earlier this year which cost $1000 (these allowed me to meet my deductible for the year).

I'm just so over spending all this money on doctors and I feel like I should be strong enough to deal with the issues I am having and not go.

  • That's terrible that medical bills are costing you so much, but I think that you need to stop feeling guilty. It's not like you're spending all your money on frivolous things like shopping sprees, eating out every night, etc. You're spending money on your health, and that is very important and necessary. Stop blaming yourself. The medical issues will resolve themselves in time, as long as you keep taking care of yourself, and then you can start saving money again.

THIS!  Have you sat down and do a rebudget together?  That usually helps H and I.  Are you paying for things in full or payment plans?  I got a care credit card for my chiropractor, and it's 12 mons no interest.  I felt bad because at the time we were already struggling, but I needed it.  It's easier for me to pay $100/mon (no interest) then $1200 upfront.  A lot of medically offices use it.  Just make sure to pay it off in the 0% time...

  • I agree with everyone.  You should not feel guilty about going to the Dr.  It just happens that you have alot going on at one time.  You can't help that.

I would look into what Mana said.  I know that I have seen those cards in some of my dr's offices.  It might help to relieve some of the stress of paying the bills.

  • Thanks y'all.  Some things are set up as payment plans, so that is helping out a lot.  I just hate having to dedicate so much time and money to these issues right now.  I'm not used to taking that much for myself, so it's hard to not feel guilty.  I work with my family, so when I am missing work to go to these appointments, I feel bad for leaving them shorthanded and having to pick up my slack.

I know I need to take care of myself and need to do these things.  I just hate that it's all at once :(

Thanks again for letting me vent and confirming that I shouldn't feel bad for all of this.
