job experience q

What is a polite way to phrase that a job that a recruiter is sending me is below me? "Below my skill set"? I don't want to sound pretentious but the jobs she is sending me are positions I had experience in several years ago.

Re: job experience q

  • I would call, not email her.

Ask her more about the positions and what about them made her think they would be good for you. It's possible she knows more about them than what she emails you. You might be surprised.

If she explains and they are indeed not matching your current skill set or career desires, then explain to her specifically what you do want.

Say, "In my XYZ job back in 2009, I worked for this company and I was doing what you just described to me in this new position. I am looking to pursue something with ABC and stretch my horizons not go back to what I did before."

If she continues to fail at this, then find a new recruiter.

To a recruiter -- pick up the phone & be direct:  "Thanks for thinking of me for this job but before I go, I have some concerns.  It looks like a job for which I am overqualified & that the responsibilities are ones I had before.  Am I missing something or is it just a bad fit? "  After you talk if you are still not convinced, don't go.
