XP: I joined a gym

It's a year contract which can be suspended for a few months for medical reasons, like giving birth etc.

I don't want to be a waste once I am pregnant. So, for those of you who have been active through a pregnancy, what did you do? How can I get the most of it while TTC and/or pregnant?

Congrats to my TTC buddy Madeline! Cheering for all the strong 3T ladies!

Re: XP: I joined a gym

  • Thats awesome! Do they offer classes? I love yoga and spinning. My OB just told me to tell instructors I was pregnant. For spinning classes, I was told to wear a heart rate monitor. I still go! Have fun:)

I kept up running. Or walking. Until 32 or 33 weeks. Then I had to pee when I walked or ran and it just wasn't worth it. I kept up with weeding, gardening, cleaning, etc. I didn't mind not going to the gym the last few weeks, bc it was just too hot.

I also did a lot of stretching, balance ball work and light weights. I found that to be particularly helpful in maintaining my balance and combating back pain.

  • I wish I had done more exercise while pregnant but I would have had to start and be in shape already, which I didn't do Sad  A friend of mine had a personal trainer all throughout and up until the end of her pregnancy, so it can be done safely Smile  I think you need to watch your heartrate.

  • The rule of thumb is that whatever you are used to doing prior to getting pregnant you can continue while pregnant. I wish I had exercised more but I was restricted all of first tri and then Wayne and I were both too nervous after I was clear to do anything. And by that point I was way out of shape to even think of starting!

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
  • I did everything I was doing pre-pregnancy, though I stopped running somewhere in the low 20 weeks because the bouncing made me have to pee every 5 minutes. I wore a heart rate monitor and made sure not to go above 80% of my max heart rate.

I second the use of a heart rate monitor. I kept up with using my stair stepper until the warmer weather kicked in and now it's been more gardening and yard work. For me, I also found that using MFP made a big difference in making me not only want to exercise but eat better too.
