Baby Gear

Aaaah where to begin!  There's so much out there!  I don't know what we should start with, what exactly to look for, etc.

Those of you who have been there, how did you begin your research?

Re: Baby Gear

  • I used the Baby Bargains book to start with, then began looking around stores to see what fit our needs and taste.

  • I asked friends for recommendations and read reviews online.

  • Definitely baby bargains. April 2013 is the newest edition.

I registered online at babies r us. I would read a chapter of the book and register for that item based on our needs and also looking at reviews. I did have some friends to ask about that stuff.

It took a long time. It is overwhelming. My advice is just to pick one category at a time. Swing, infant car seat, convertible car seat, crib, changing table, bottles, glider, etc. don't feel like you need to decide all at once.

  • Babies r us has a really good guideline thing about what to register for and how much youwillneed when you sign up for a registry.

  • I collected info from here on GPM. I pretty much selected it all online and went to the store to confirm in person that I liked what I saw.

  • Baby Bargains was a Godsend to us.  Registering was overwhelming since there was so much that we just took a day and went through the book' recs while looking at prices on Target and Amazon (where we registered) and chose that way.  We did that for everything on our registry except the stroller and cribs/dresser, which I put more time into thoroughly researching and test driving.  I ended up loving everything except the bathtub.

We also used Lucie's List for recommendations and quantities since we had no idea how much of some things we would need.

When it came to researching a convertible car seat, I had to put a lot more time into that b/c of the space it takes up in the car since DH needed more room to drive.  Luckily, that didn't have to be done while pregnant Smile

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

I used Baby Bargains and focused on one section at a time. I ordered the crib first and then worried about the rest.  I registered around 24 weeks.

We looked at baby bargains and Lucie's List.  There were a few big ticket items we knew we wanted from going to a baby expo. The expensive stuff (mamaroo and uppababy vista) I started stalking Craigslist for. I couldn't really legitimize anyone paying full price for those when I could find practically new ones for a deep discount.

I also agree with going to the store and testing things out. We will be doing that again for the double stroller I want.
