Boston, Nantucket, cape cod, Martha's Vineyard
I would like to plan our anniversary this year in August. My husband and I live in Ca. We would like to go to boston for a baseball game. Then head to either Martha's Vineyard, cape cod, or Nantucket. We have never been and would like any recommendations or suggestions. Places to stay, what is the best places to go, or places to eat.

(semi-lucker coming out to give a little east coast advice)
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and what you want to do as far as the Cape, or one of the islands. The Vineyard is slightly more touristy, but has some nice beachs plus is a cheaper and shorter ferry ride from the main land, i think the trip from Woods Hole is about 45 minutes on the regular speed ferry. Nantucket is much more laid back from what I've experienced, the ferry ride is a little longer, about 2 1/2 hours from what I remember. If you are planning on staying on either island and are taking a car over it's a good idea to book the ferry in advance, they can book up quick during holiday weeks or even on the weekend. Another option would be to just stay on the Cape and take a day trip over. I have ate at a bunch of different restaurants (too many to remember or name) on the Vineyard and again never had a bad meal! I've never stayed overnight on either island so I'm no help there, sorry!!
A Red Sox game is a great Boston experience! Taking the T or parking at Boston University is the best way to go since paking can be a bit expensive really close to the park. Also if you are looking to get a good overview of Boston take a Duck boat tour, they point out all the major sites plus take you into the Charles a little bit. Staying near Government Center or near TD Garden will allow you to get to just about anywhere you want to go by walking or the T. I've stayed at a bunch of the Marriott properties in town when I would travel to Boston for work and have always been happy with the rooms and service. A couple of places to stop by are either Modern Pastry or Mike's Pastries in the North End and grab some yummy cannoli's! Also just about any restaurant in the Northend is good! I've ate at a few and haven't had a bad meal yet!
Hope you have a great trip! It's a great area with a ton to do so I could probably go on for days!
DH and I just got back from Boston- LOVED IT (it was partially work, partially pleasure).
We did: Freedom Trail, Quincy Market, Fanneuil Hall (sp?), North End (Mike's Pastries and Umberto's for yummy pizza- get there EARLY!), USS Constitution, waterfront...
Also an aquarium there... there is SO much to do, and we definitely didn't have enough time!
Red Sox game was AWESOME- pre-party on Yawkey Way and get a watermelon beer at Boston Beer Works (but get there EARLY otherwise no tables or food- gets VERY crowded!)
depending on the length of your trip, you may want to consider renting a house in the cape, or vineyard. I took a trip with some friends a few years ago, and we rented one for the week. was much cheaper than a hotel, we had all the comforts of a fully-furnished house, AND we could budget/cook our own food if we wanted. I think I booked through 'homeaway.com' or something similar. We stayed in the cape, and took the ferry to marthas vineyard for a day trip. It worked out well for us.
Being college kids, we didn't do much aside from relax on the beach and cook dinners together/hang out/etc. We did go for a fancy dinner in the cape, but for the life of me I cant remember the restaurant!
