If you've gone to Erie...

Where are some places to go/avoid?  We are thinking of taking a little mini vacay there, but for someone who's only been there for Splash Lagoon we are limited in what we know about the area or where to go to play in the water.

    I love Presque Isle Park.

Waldameer is also nice, it's been a while since I've been there, but it was a nice outdoor amusement/water park. It's on our list to get up there this year, but it hasn't happened yet.

  • I've heard the zoo is very nice and if you are a Pittsburgh zoo member you will get a discount.

The public beaches are pretty nice now.  All sand, no rocks.  They also have bathrooms, showers and concession stands.

  • We went there once when DD was a baby, so all we really did was Presque Isle State Park.  We stayed at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel, which was really nice.  We actually chose it because it permitted dogs, but that was a challenge, because we couldn't even go to eat in the hotel restaurant and leave the dog in the room.

We've talked about going again and would definitely leave our dog at home :-)

Picnicking at the park was really nice,  there was also a festival or something going on there that was nice too, but it really clogged up traffic heading in and out of the park.

  • My sister went last month for a few days.  They stayed at Residence Inn connected to splash lagoon and had but 1 day, get 2nd day free special.  They did Waldemeee, zoo, presque isle and wineries

  • We've gone to the Maritime Museum.  That was definitely interesting.  They have the Flagship Niagara which is a restored ship that is sometimes at the museum.  I didn't see anywhere on the site where it lists what dates it is actually docked there.  If it's there, you can tour the ship.  It's pretty neat!

There is also a Tom Ridge Environmental Center that is at Presque Isle.  General Admission is free -- I just found that out this past weekend.

We go up to Lake Chautauqua, so we sometimes take day trips down to Erie.  The Tom Ridge museum is in our plans for our next rainy weekend.
