Mom's of 3 or more

What kind of vehicle do you drive? Our 2 oldest kids will be old enough to move out of car seats in the upcoming year or so and I'm ready to "retire" my minivan. I'm looking for suggestions of either an SUV or sedan that will comfortably fit 2 kids and a baby in the back (here's the kicker) UNDER $26,000. So, unfortunately, no Tahoe's, Acadia's, etc. Thanks!

Re: Mom's of 3 or more

  • Subarus are good family cars. And, all come with AWD.

I would look into Consumer Reports.

  • Ditto the Consumer Report recommendation.

Also - consider a slightly used vehicle (2-3 years old with low mileage) you will save a good deal of money and still have a reliable car that will serve you well.

  • If you are comfortable with a used car, I currently drive a Honda Pilot and I love it.  Brand new they are in the $30k and $40k range but you can find a 2010 or so for under $26k.

I can fit 3 kids in car/booster seats across the second row so I rarely have the 3rd row up at all and this gives me a ton of storage space.  If I do use the 3rd row I use the 40/60 split so I don't have all the seats up and still have good storage space.  It also drives much more like a car than a large SUV and I really like that.  My car is a 2007 that I got 2.5 years ago for $19k.

I just checked my local CarMax website and they have a 2010 with 53k miles for $23k so that would be in your price range if you are interested in used.
