Disney Cruise With A 2 1/2 Year Old?

Hi Moms!

Quick question? Has anyone recently gone on a Disney cruise with a 2 1/2 year old or currently considering?  We are keeping this in mind for one of our family vacations this summer. My husband and I love a cruise and heard that Disney is really the way to go with a child. Can anyone make any suggestions or have advice? Thanks so much! Happy summer to all!

Brooke

Re: Disney Cruise With A 2 1/2 Year Old?

  • I'm not a mom (thank you god!) so I guess I can't reply :)
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • I can't answer specifically about Disney cruising, but we just returned from an Alaskan cruise with my 24 month old DD.  I was really nervous/worried that she wouldn't do well and we wouldn't enjoy our vacation (only child with 7 adults).  She did great and loved walking all over the ship.  The crew loved her and had everything we needed (high chair, pack n play, milk, etc).  There weren't many kids on board since it was AK, but she had a great time and so did we.

  • We just went on a disney cruise in April with our 3 1/2 son he loved it. Disney is a great cruise line and they have everything you should ever need for a child. The entertainment is all based around children and all the characters are there and they are great with the kids. I would highly recommend it. If you can do a cruise that stops at Disneys private island castaway cay make sure you do its like heaven on earth!

  • We are waiting until our youngest is 3yrs.  They can participate in the group activities starting at 3yrs old, so that's what we wanted to wait for.  We are DVC members and have been planning a trip since DS1 was 2!  I also agree with the pp about CASTAWAY CAY.  I hear its great!

  • We took our daughter on a Disney cruise for her birthday when she turned 5.   Personally, I wouldn't want to take a child in diapers and still on a nap schedule on a cruise...but that is just me.  I have been on many cruises and Disney is the best for kids!!  They have special areas onboard where you can drop her off to play with kids her own age and do Disney themed stuff.  They are safe and no one can check them out but you.  Your child will have a bracelet on the whole time and you have a pager.  It is safe and fun for everyone!  The kids pool area is awesome and swarming with lifeguards. It is very shallow and perfect for little ones. I cant say enough good stuff about Disney cruises!!!!
  • We are also considering a Disney cruise with our 3 and 5 year olds. From all the research I've been doing, it seems like it should be perfect. My kids love Disney so I'm sure they will be non-stop excited. Which route were you considering? I really would like to go to Disney's island and have read great things about it. But not sure of the rest of the trip.
  • I would think with Disney, you should be fine.  Personally, I would wait until they are of age to go to the activities so you can enjoy a few moments alone here and there.

We went on a Carnival cruise with our son at 13 months, and never again.  No pools for him, nowhere for him to run around, really.. boring during the day for us with no entertainment except swimming or gambling.
