question on nanny's unused PTO

Our nanny is leaving us because she and her husband are moving out of state. We will be paying her for accrued PTO she has not used. My question is do we withhold SS and Medicare tax as we do with her regular pay, or is that not applicable to unused PTO?

  • Yes you would. If I was to leave my company and get paid out my vacation, they would withhold the taxes from it.

I left a job they took taxes and SS out of my last check that had my accrued vacation leave.

  • My company withheld taxes out of my unused PTO at the higher "supplemental income" rate. :(
