Re: ~~TudorRose~~
Thank you so much for thinking of me!
The doctor was very thorough in explaining everything to us. The tumor came back as "low malignant potential," which he says means it was technically cancerous but showed no signs of spreading to my other ovary or tube or to my uterus.
Since there was no evidence of having spread, there is no need for further surgery after the baby is born (my OB had mentioned the possibility of a full hysterectomy after birth), and no need for chemo. He said that there are more fatalities associated with complications with chemo from this type of tumor than from the cancer itself.
I will just need to have ultrasounds at all of my annual exams from here on out to monitor my remaining ovary. He said that if we were to find any recurrence, that's where it would be.
He also said I will have the same odds at conceiving in the future as I did with two ovaries. Since they don't show up on paps and I'd never had an ultrasound prior to pregnancy, there's no way to know if the mass has been there for years and that ovary wasn't cooperating in the first place.
Being told that we can TTC for a second time is huge to me. When we were faced with possibly losing our baby during surgery and then possibly having a hysterectomy, these were my biggest fears over cancer by far.
He wants me to be on hormonal BCP anytime we aren't TTC because women on BCP have shown a 30% less chance of developing ovarian cysts since the BCP prevents ovulation (when the follicle ruptures for ovulation, a cyst could develop during the healing process from that follicle). A second pregnancy also holds no increased risk for another mass growing, which I was really worried about.
I am so beyond relieved. When we left the office and got to the elevator I started crying. I've been so nervous the past few weeks and terrified of more bad news. I kept saying "thank you" to the doctor and he said, "You're welcome, but I didn't come in here to tell you what you wanted to hear. This is the truth."
Also, he reassured me there is no increased risk of a c-section. If we get to that point, it will be regular obstetrics and not related to this. I am happy to know that.
Now it feels like I can get back to the normal pregnancy worries, which I feel I can definitely tackle now! Thank you ladies again for all the thoughts and prayers. Every kind word has really meant a lot to me throughout this whole process!

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
