keep a job you hate or move to a different place

My husband and I are currently living in a brand new house that we love.... but the only problem is it is really weighing us down financially... we cant even afford to go on a date night hahahha :( our house needs a yard and stuff put in still and we don't know when we will be able to afford that Soooo we are currently discussing whether or not we should just sell the house and move to a completely new place.... mind you we are 20 years old, no kids, and are looking for an adventure together. We are debating whether or not we should take a leap of faith and move 5 hours away from all families and get a college education.... What would you guys dooo........ loose a cute house that you got a killer deal on and keep working dead beat jobs or move to an apartment and down size a lot but get a college education??

Re: keep a job you hate or move to a different place

  • You didn't get a "killer deal" on the house if you can't afford it. You should have thought of that before buying it!

Sell the house and down-size to something you can afford.

As far as the college education goes, that is your decision to make. Can you and your H afford to go to school? If you can, I would say go for it if you feel like it is a good decision in the long run. DH and I both wanted to go to school, but couldn't afford to do it at the same time because we didn't want to take our student loans. DH started school and when he is done (in about a year) I am thinking of going back. Although, not everyone NEEDS to go to college to get a good job. So it's something you really need to think about. Also, not every person that didn't go to college has a "dead-beat" job.

  • Why did you buy a house you can't afford? Sell it. Move or don't move, that's your call.
  • Me and my fiance are all about adventure. My family is here in Florida, and his are in Connecticut. So we are always away from family one way or other. As far as schooling goes, I recently (at 21) started going back to college and I don`t regret it! It was a must for my fiance who already has a bachelors degree. I say move to somewhere you can afford, and go to college! It`s an investment you won`t regret! God luck to you and your husband!
  • We just bought a house at the end of last year and went with one that we could afford with only one income in the event I didnt have work (Im a contractor and work sometimes is hard to find with the budget cuts and such with my career field...ect) - this way we can go on vacations, date nights, have money to get us by if a something happens/an emergency. We were lucky to find a nice, small house in a good neighborhood about 20-30 mins away from a college we can both attend. We both work full time during the summer DH is working on his BA first so during the school year he works part time and goes to school full time, while I continue working full time and go to school part time that way it doesnt break the bank and we both are doing school to knock it all out. **Also for school consider attending a community college to knock out pre-reqs at a cheaper rate but make sure it will transfer to where you want to get a BA from if thats your plan.** Our state has a western transfer program where certain CC's have programs that will transfer to good universities across my state (CO) so thats a thing to check on also.

I would say sell, go with an apt or at least something smaller and less expensive so that you can save up $ to vacation and go on adventures while going to college. A college education is practically a must these days for certain jobs/job fields or if you want to advance in a job most jobs require either a AS or BA to get any kind of leadership position.I have some college and military exp which allow me to have a pretty decent shot at getting positions typically req BA's or AS's but Im stuck at the bottom and can only advance with a degree so whatever jobs you guys want to do I would look into and see what education/exp is needed you may need a cert, AS, BA, PHD or just a HS diploma.

Good luck :-) I hope you guys can figure it all out!! Most important is to do what makes the most sense for you guys based on your plans/goals/dreams!
