Anniversary Ideas? 38 weeks PG and GD

Hi Ladies,

Any ideas for our anniversary?

It will be 9 years for us in a little over a week.

I have GD so it is hard to find places where I can eat, let alone places where I want to eat. Also, I will be 38 weeks PG, which I can only imagine will be more uncomfortable than I am now. I am not miserable, but I have been having BH and back pain, so I am not feeling great.

Part of me wants to tell DH that we can celebrate it when the baby is here. There is a fair we really like to go to at the end of August. I was thinking maybe we could take the baby in the ergo and see the animals and eat some fair food.

Is this a horrible idea? Will I not feel like going anywhere?

Chances are good I am going to have a c/s at the beginning of August.

Usually we either pick a really nice restaurant that we haven't been to and go there, but I know I won't be happy just ordering a salad and watching DH eat whatever he wants on our anniversary. Or we plan a fun day trip, but I know I won't feel like walking around all day. :-(

  • Depending on your birth and the temperament of your 3ish week old baby, there's a good chance you won't want to walk around a fair all day. Also, not sure how hot it gets by you, but there's no way Lucy would have been able to cool down at an outdoor fair that early. Regulating body temp is tricky for tiny infants.

I'd say you should celebrate your anniversary on time. Maybe a picnic at a park followed by rented movies so you can pause them to pee. I'm not sure how strict the GD diet is, but you could try to make a lower sugar dessert as a special treat. Hope you can figure something out!

  • thanks for the replies!

I get 45 carbs for dinner and dessert :-) so not very much.

I live near Seattle, so it will probably be about 60 degrees. We would probably want to walk around, see one of the shows. I am thinking maybe 3 hours (?). It is a smallish fair.

I know nothing about the GD diet, but can you do something fun and non food related? Or do a nice lunch out?

I doubt you'll be ready/up for the fair if you have a C/S.  Plus I think it is important to spend your anniversary focusing on you as a couple.  Soon the baby will take over and it is nice to have couple time to reconnect.

  • I think that is a really tricky one! It really depends on how you feel at 38 weeks. I was miserable pretty much after 32 weeks but I know that there are a lot of people out there who aren't/weren't. Also, I had my DD at 38 weeks 2 days so there is always that chance.

I wouldn't make any concrete plans for shortly before or shortly after Due date but just play it by ear and do what you feel like doing and don't feel bad if you have to say no.

I honestly don't know a lot about the GD diet but it seems like around Seattle here you'd be able to find lots of seafood or even steak restaurants that are nice places for an anniversary dinner.  Paired with veggies I think you'd easily be able to stick to 45 g or less of carbs.  I've never had to deal with a c section recovery but I would guess at 3 weeks pp you may still be pretty sore and definitely exhausted plus I don't think it would feel much like an anniversary date at that point.  I'd still plan to go somewhere or do something on your anniversary, just the two of you because it might be a while before you get that chance again and then see how you feel when the fair comes around and go if you're up for it, but not as an anniversary date just as a fun thing to do.

  • What about a movie or a show? Those are things I wish I took advantage of more before Cora was here.

I would at least try to do something, as there won't be many more chances to just do something once LO is here.

Also, at 3 weeks old, we took Cora to a family picnic. We were having a lot of trouble BFing, and I was very stressed out and ended up crying a lot. I wouldn't have wanted that to be our "Anniversary Celebration," because I would have felt like I was ruining it for DH.

  • Ahhh I just re-read the part about the c-section. It was very difficult for me to wear regular clothes, until about a month out. All I wanted to wear was baggy PJ pants because I could pull them up over my incision.

  • I personally would say, F it eat whatever the heck you want to. One day is not going to kill you or hurt your child. I was not diagnosed with GD, but was treated as having it anyways since I was borderline.

My "last" meal the night before I gave birth to E was fried calamari, lobster, risotto, ice cream from Baskin Robbins, and a donut.
