Hi everyone! My name is Lisa.
I've been lurking on this board off and on for the past year or two. I figured since we're (finally!) moving I'd say hi and introduce myself. ![]()
My DH and I have been wanting to move to the South Hills for some time (DH works in South Park. We currently live about 10 mins from the airport.) I've been working in Ohio but just recently started working in the South Side. So South Hills seems like a good location! ![]()
We've been married for a little over 7 years and have an (almost) 2.5 year old son, Tyler. Speaking of which, does anyone have a recommendation for Peds in the S. Hills? We currently have Sewickley Valley but I don't believe they have an office down there...
Thanks all! And I look forward to talking with you all! ![]()
Re: (soon to be) new to the South Hills/recs for Peds
Depending where you are in South Hills, there are a few Children's Community Pediatric offices. The office on Fort Couch Rd (by South Hills Village) and the office in McMurray are the same "practice" and most (not all) of the Peds can be seen at both offices. A different set of doctors work out of both the Brentwood and Jefferson Hills offices.
I think CCP comes pretty highly recommended. DD is only 4 months old but so far I really like the practice. They are very punctual and I've never waited long in the waiting room (usually I barely have time to sit down before they call DD's name!). I've seen a few different doctors, including one sick visit, and they were all great.
For well visits, we typically request the same doctor now.
We really liked NP Brooke Pletcher at Pediatrics South (Mt. Lebo office). They don't tell you how to raise your kids, but are more than happy to have discussion and help you determine the best situation for your family.
Another huge plus, they were always on time. They also have weekend sick visit hours. We currently go to their Robinson office, and it's OK, but I don't like it as much as their Mt. Lebo office.
Thanks! Being on time is a huge plus (as is the discussion aspect). SVP has done pretty well with being on time, but there were a few instances...oy. Long waits + cranky toddler = sad dr visit
Why do you like the Mt. Lebo office more than Robinson? (just curious)
The support staff/receptionists at the Mt. Lebo office are better. The Robinson office is never on time. On more than one occasion they've messed up our appointment times. Once was on DS's very first visit after we got home from the hospital. They messed up the time, and then the receptionist told us we could wait 1 hour for the next available appointment. I was only a few days postpartum and we had our toddler with us, and I specifically asked for the earliest appointment, the ones before the office gets all germed up.
I also go to CCP but our Office is in Mt Lebanon. there are 4 there I think. They do rounds at St. Clair Hospital which is where I deliver. We interviewed with Dr. Lanz- the Sr. of the office, who came highly recommended by my sister in law, but since my son was SO jaundice we spend 2 extra days in the hospital, Dr. Gotkiewicz ended up seeing us the last couple times and discharging him so we ended up seeing him for the follow up as well and then just stuck with him.
They do have reasonable hours and since they are Children's, they are on the same system as the Hospital AND the Children's Express Care ( there is one in South Hills as well off of Fort Couch Road) you can go to any location and they can access all your child's medical records.
***The only thing is, what insurance do you have??... with all this Highmark/UPMC stuff going on... I am not sure yet if they will be grouped with Children's Hospital allowing the Highmark to be accepted or if that will be the HOSPITAL only and I will have to find a new Group next year. =(

We live in Jefferson hills too and we use kids plus pediatrics - it's on rt 51 near the mall. We have a 5 yr old daughter and a 2 1/2 yr old son and we've been extremely happy with them. We love dr maddelina but we've seen others and loved them too. They have walk-in hours every morning and evening. And another office in squirrel hill that is part if the Breastfeeding Center of pgh.

We use this practice as well and I have always had good experiences there. Over the past 5.5 years we have seen just about everyone. I love the walk-in hours and have made use of them more than once.
We also use Kids Plus on route 51 in Pleasant Hills and have been very happy there. The practice has office hours 7 days a week (weekends are for sick visits), and we love the walk-in hours.
The doctors are all great - but our favorites are Dr. Wolynn, Dr. Godinez, Dr. Wolfe, and Dr. Magee.
Thanks everyone for the responses! I appreciate it!
FWIW, I have UPMC. So I guess I'll have to figure that in too. I didn't even think of that when I originally posed the question.
that will definitely take some calls. UPMC tends to be more difficult to find in network dr's outside of their hospital network. but i'm sure you'll find someone.

We have the same insurance and have no problems going to Kids Plus.
