I officially have high BP. No swelling or headaches. I had my appointment this morning. My doc said "We won't do anything about it yet but watch it, but I may need to change my mind next week"... do you think he meant induce me? I should have asked but I didn't think to until after he left! Everything else looked good though, so thats exciting:)
Re: high blood pressure?
It's crazy I'll be term next week. If they do induce, I just hope she's really ready to go at 37 weeks.
I was hoping for a natural delivery...but if I get induced I am more open to an epidural since I hear the medicines used for induction can cause really painful labor. Any one with experience in that?
Its been creeping up each week. I normally have very low blood pressure. The past month at each weekly appointment it's gone up quite a bit. Today it was 145/90. The first time it was high was the week of my baby shower...I tried to blame it on my in laws being in town, but they have left and my BP keeps on going up haha. Oh well.
Thats a good idea. I don't feel nervous before appointments...but you never know! I'm a teacher, so I'm off for summer so there is really no other reason for it to be high. My parents have a BP machine at home, so maybe I'll borrow it. Thanks for the suggestion!
High BP can be a sign of preE but not usually on its own. Have they checked for protein in your urine or any other signs? I'd be hesitant to induce at 37 w just based on high BP alone but I'm no doc so obviously I'd listen to them.
.
They may be thinking pre-e but then they would probably just monitor you more closely and look for proteins in your urine and swelling. I have heard of induction for pregnancy induced hypertension too though so they may induce due just to the high bp. I hope the relaxing weekend you have ahead of you will be enough to lower your blood pressure!
I don't have experience with induction but my labor was augmented meaning I was in labor but they gave me pitocin to help kick start things. I got my epidural about 45 minutes after they started the pitocin but I ordered it while they were hooking me up. I, personally, would not have been able to labor with the pitocin co tractions for the 13 more hours it took to finally have her.
I was having contractions before and I could breathe through them but the pitocin ones felt like my belly button was ripping in half (and I have a 2 inch stretch mark to prove that it was!) I have also seen and heard of people getting induced/pitocin and making it through with no pain meds. I wouldn't rule the non medicated birth out just because of the induction but it is certainly a good idea to have an open mind!

Honestly, if this is your first pregnancy/labor then don't even think about it being "more" painful, since you don't have anything to compare it to, KWIM?
I will say a few things: Cora was not ready to come at 37 weeks, but that doesn't mean that other babies aren't. Do whatever you can to rest and keep your BP at bay so that baby can cook as long as possible.
Did they put you on bed rest? They would probably do that first. If they jump right to induction, I would maybe push for bed rest first. They put me on bed rest when my BP was 150/90 and I could only get out of bed for the bathroom. They induced me once it was 160/100.
I borrowed my mom's and was told to check it twice a day and call if it got above a certain level. I had to call 3 times and go in to LD to be monitored. On the 4th time they decided I needed to be induced.
