F/U to flooded car - ? about carseats

The water that got into the truck did not make it up to the carseats that were in the car. Now I can't guarantee that it didn't get splashed or something, but there was no standing water at the level of the carseats. Should I still mention it to insurance and see if they will replace them or do you think I should just keep using them?

Re: F/U to flooded car - ? about carseats

  • If the car was only wet, I don't think it would cause any functional problems with the carseats. So I would be surprised if the insurance company would replace them for that. With a collision they are replaced because even without a child in the seat it could have been altered in the crash and are no longer able to be used.
  • Unless the car seats were submerged in water or something, I wouldn't have any concerns about using them.
  • I hardly ever post here, but I wanted to let you know that my husband's car was flooded and totaled last week, and our insurance company is replacing our carseats, along with his car.  They asked us to leave them as they were in the car, and they would reimburse us for them.  They did get wet, but even if yours didn't, I know everything in his car smelled so badly that you may want to ask them about it.  It's such a pain to deal with all this, his car was only 5 months old!
