We are having DD's birthday party at a local indoor gym type place for kids. Party will take place on a Sunday from 3-4:30pm. Playtime from 3-4, use of the party room for cake/food from 4-4:30. I was thinking of serving cake, chips, pretzels, Doritos, juice boxes, water. A friend of mine whose daughter has a dairy allergy is also making some cookies for all the kids that are dairy-free. My thought was that the party isn't during a mealtime, per se, and plus we only get a half hour to be in the room with food. I went to another party at this particular place and the host tried to squeeze pizza and cake in, and it was way rushed- as you grabbed a slice of pizza, cake was being cut already. If it matters, DD is turning 3, and most of the kids are 2/3 years old. Parents will be there too.
I just don't want to come off as being cheap. Do I need to add anything? Should I bring sodas or iced tea or something else beverage-wise for adults? I feel like for the half hour we get in the room, some picky chip-type things and cake and cookies are sufficient, but also don't want people to be like 'geez, she took the cheap way out'
Re: Party food question
I work at a gym that has bday parties. Most kids don't eat pizza at parties. They are not interested in it. Works out great for the staff because they get leftovers!
I don't think your being cheap!
I think that sounds perfect. You're not being cheap at all! When we go to parties like that, I'm just grateful we're invited and that DS has a nice activity for the afternoon.
From 3-4, do you have access to the room where the food will be? We went to a party like this recently, and the adults snacked while the kids were doing the gym stuff. Then the kids came in and did cake.
I agree with Lando. I was thinking the same thing of just a few picky things for adults; the veggie tray and cheese and crackers is what came to mind for me. Plus, if the children wanted something with substance and on the healthier side, they could also pick from veggies and cheese too. Also, a variety of drinks would be good. What about soft pretzels? Easy and cheap.
Have fun, and Happy Birthday to your daughter!
Jamie if this is at the place I'm thinking of in WG, I was at a party there a few weeks ago. They did have pizza but it was pretty rushed before the cake. I think you're just fine putting a little bit of munchies out.
FWIW it was really cute. Happy bday A!
Thanks ladies! I didn't notice if the party room was available to adults during the playtime- I will have to ask. I will definitely add soda or iced tea, and maybe another munchie thing for adults if they have access to the room during the party.
Jess- yes, it's where you're thinking!
