Hi! Looking for some thoughts and advice!
We are looking to re do our bedroom - which currently has no color theme or cohesion at all. Our problem is that we have a light oak dresser and side tables and these are pretty "out of style" according to many home magazines.
Does anyone have the same type of furniture and can recommend a color scheme that would look good with this kind of wood? I had originally thought a light light blue wall with white trim and white curtains but feel that's a little too beachy.
Thanks!!
Re: Oak furniture
Have you considered painting the furniture? It can be time consuming but worth it if it allows you to decorate in the style you would like.
Keep in mind that any complimentary color on the walls (blue and violet tones) will bring out the yellow in the wood, perhaps highlighting rather than hiding the oak.
If I were stuck with oak furniture I would likely do a flat white wall (maybe Ben Moore's Decorator White) and bring in primary colors through accessories... kind of an Ikea look.
Or, what about something like this? I actually think the oak really works in this bedroom: http://bedroum.com/wp-content/uploads/white_oak_bedroom_furniture.jpg
Soft green walls, coordinated bedding, and a white rug.
Thank you both! I hadn't thought about the color wheel aspect (new to decorating on my own!)
I am going to see how hard it will be to repaint the furniture....its real wood, just don't want to screw it up by doing it myself.
