Online Graduate Programs

Hi Ladies! I am considering getting a MBA (or something similar) and wanted to know if any of you have earned your degree online and where you did so? I'm looking for an accredited university.  TIA!

Re: Online Graduate Programs

  • I attempted the online thing because I thought the flexibility would be awesome since I could do it at my own pace and still work full time. BIG WASTE OF MONEY! Not saying its not for you though, just make sure you are 120% committed to it or you'll never finish.

  • I'm not really sure how it works for business degrees, but I feel like I see a lot of ads for online MBAs. Some of these are from reputable schools and some not so much. I would avoid for-profit schools which tend to have most online courses, for example, the University of Phoenix. A quick google search lead me to this: http://www.usnews.com/education/online-education/slideshows/2013-best-online-mba-programs

    Good luck!

  • I'm doing an online graduate program through Georgetown University right now and love it. It does take dedication and (for me at least) it's not a set your own pace type of program. However, I'm very happy to be able to keep my day job, spend time with family and friends, and the best part? I can take vacation whenever I want and just take my computer with me! :) I agree with a pp though, do it through a regular university that has online programs. The strictly online, for-profit schools seem to be a bit less reliable (in my opinion).
  • I did a hybrid program (70%) online through the College of St.Scholastica in Minnesota. Online school takes a LOT of discipline and hard work but it paid off. I know they have many fully online graduate programs. Good luck!

  • I did my BIST and am currently doing my MLIS through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I have had very few issues with them, but as someone else mentioned, you HAVE to be prepared to give it your all, because time management is completely on you.
  • I finished my Master's in Acctg & Finance in Dec 2011 from Univ. of Maryland while working full time as an accountant. It does require a LOT of dedication & hard work, but it's definitely doable. And there's nothing like the sense of satisfaction I got when I could put on my resume that I completed my graduate degree while sometimes working up to 60 hours/week. I could use that example in interviews as a defined, measurable demonstration of my work ethic. I'm not enjoying the student loan payments now but I make at least $15k more now than I did then with an imminent significant increase in pay and responsibilities. My dad always said that if you want to get a graduate degree, you should either find someone willing to pay for it or someone willing to pay you more for your degree after you get it - just food for thought.
