Anniversary plans?

Anyone thinking of anything for the 2nd anniversary yet?

We went big last year, so we are thinking of just doing a small weekend trip this year. Either get a hotel downtown or drive up to wine country and stay there a few nights.

Re: Anniversary plans?

  • I'm not sure yet, but I am absolutely dying for a real vacation. Things were too crazy last year and all we managed to do was a long weekend to Lake of the Ozarks for our anniversary. It was great, but CHILLY in October. And nowhere near long enough.

We spent our honeymoon in Napa Valley, and while that was also fantastic, it was very busy. We wanted to see everything, hit every winery and all the cool restaurants. It didn't leave much time for relaxing.

I need a week somewhere tropical and quiet. Just me, DH, a beach, nice pool, big stack of books, drinks with floaty umbrellas. The works.

We've talked about it, but his travel schedule at work is up in the air and with it getting so close I have a bad feeling we will be stuck doing another long weekend and pushing that big vacation further out.

I asked DH this the other night.  Last year we went out for a nice dinner downtown.  Our anniversary is the 29th.. and we are going to Nashville, TN the weekend of the 19th. So we will kinda call that our anniversary trip and maybe do something special down there.

  • Last year we spent the night hunkered down waiting for Sandy to hit (which it did at about 8pm) with friends from our building.  Though we did go on a nice European vacation a few weeks later as our gift to ourselves.

This year will obviously be a little different.  I think we'll probably have my bro & SIL watch the baby while we go out to dinner at the restaurant we were married at.  But no big trips this year.

  • mmm...haven't thought about it yet with so much going on for me (work-related) but we would love to see New Orleans again :)  Maybe I can justify it as a work trip since I work for the Water Resources Dept here in Cali where floods are also a huge issue. But we will probably end up just doing dinner or something. It falls on a Tuesday this year, I see (Oct 29).
  • We got tickets to the Colts game the day before our anniversary as our present to each other a couple weeks ago. Right now we're tossing around the idea of staying at the hotel we stayed on our wedding night, and making a whole weekend out of it.

Last year we did a long weekend in Gatlinburg, TN. We loved it, but want to stay closer to home this year.

  • Last year we went to Disney. This year we probably won't be doing much. We'd like to go back to Jamaica again but that means we will need to find someone to watch the baby. So maybe next year...
  • We're saving up for a house so we won't do anything too big.

Last year we did a night in Treasure Island, which was where we went for our honeymoon. It's only a 45 minute drive away so we may do that again. We might just go to Disney for the day because our season passes are done at the end of October.

  • I've been MIA (4th of July away, sick baby, then I was sick and it ended up in a gunky sinus infection.  Ugh!)... but...

We have an annoying sales guy that my company hired to "train" us every few months.  During one of his sessions early this year, I unscrambled a word during  a game and he promised me a $50 gift certificate to a resort in the mountains.  I grumbled thinking, "What am I going to do with a $50 GC when I'm going to have to spend $200 more just to use it?!"

A few weeks later, he showed up and handed me a certificate for a free night at the resort with dinner.  Sooo... I'm going to try to book a room the weekend after our anniversary.  The problem is, they just opened a new casino on the property and I fear it's going to be completely booked!  I probably waited too long...

DH wants to spend the money for a second night at the resort to make it a two-night stay, but I'm thinking Hampton Inn Friday night and the free night on Saturday!

This is what I want to do! The Sunday before our anniversary, the Broncos come to town.  I would love to go to that game, but since tickets are sold out already, I'm sure it'll cost a butt-load to go!  Ugh!

We probably won't be doing much of anything.  We'll go out to eat, I'm sure, but that'll be it.

I would kill to go to the Broncos game! DH works for the State so we got to buy advanced tickets and even then they were sold out! I can't imagine what the resell on them are going to be if you purchase through third party. Short of possibly winning them somehow, I doubt we'll be able to go.

We're going to the Seahawks game, which according to DH, should be a good game. And if it's like last year, the canal will be pink for breast cancer awareness month. I'm lame and find that exciting. Hehe.

  • Last year we went to NYC for a week. This year we're planning on going to Puerto Vallarta for a week. Although, we're taking it over Thanksgiving, which obviously isn't our anniversary. Our birthdays are a week apart around that time and we are sick of our families pulling us every which way and guilting us on Thanksgiving (anybody else relate?). So we just said we're not even going to be in the country then. Anyway, we're planning to start trying for a baby at that time.

TMI? I haven't told anybody that yet, so I need to tell somebody!

Thankfully my brother & sister-in-law started alternating years a long time ago so they're with my family one year, her family the next.  So when C and I got together we decided to do the same thing.  His sister is usually away over Thanksgiving (except when she hosted the year we were on our honeymoon) but my dad decided he'd rather have all his kids w/him one year and none the next, so that made our planning a lot easier.  So this year is an ILs year.

And YAY about the trying for the baby.  I don't think it's TMI.  I talked about it all the time with my bestie and DH always got mad at me for talking.  Of course then we got pg and although her timeline was later she and her husband decided they didn't want to wait, now she's due 11 weeks after me!

This is why we somehow made Thanksgiving a private holiday. It just happened over the last 2 years. It's been awesome. We get a nice bottle of red wine, H makes his amazing duck gumbo and we just hand out with the kiddo. It's really saved me some sanity.

We felt overwhelmed with Christmas.  So we stay in town and visit family here on our time. Much nicer then going out of town. Thanksgiving we alternate Austin/ Houston. But the entire family does too. This year it's here which is good because I won't have to ask for time off.

H is in dire need of a vacation. We will take the first week of October off. I would like to go someplace but don't know where. Probably decide like the week before.
