I figured I'd post since Im excited to share about my run!
First how was everyone's week? The heat was a killer! I got 2 Zumba classes in and ran a couple days before work. Even being cooler before work the humidity was terrible. This week looks more promising!
So I had my first 5K race yesterday and I survived!!! It was very crowded (around 1000 people finished). I definitely had to weave and move to get around people for a little bit. Right off the bat was a huge hill so I was really pushing it running up hill and maneuvering around people. Anyways the course was through my local zoo which was cool. Although the only animals I saw were wolves and they were running with me as I passed which was neat!!
My time according to them was 29:30, 380 out of 994 and 25th in my age group out of 102! But they didn't use a chip time based on when you crossed the starting line, which seems odd! It definitely took at least 30 seconds to a min to cross start. According to my phone app my time should have been under 29. I really just hoped to finish under 30 but under 29 is definitely the best I've ever done!!
Another 5K this weekend but with my dog. We'll see how that goes. She is motivating to keep me going but potty breaks can slow us down!
Re: Fitness post
That is great time!! You go girl. Yeah I would shave some time off what the finish line said for sure.
It is quite an accomplishment for sure. Good luck this weekend.
We were on vacation all last week in the oBX. I took stuff to run and never did. So back on the wagon this week!! I must. Thinking of signing up for a fall race to get me motivated again. Been having some heel pain that not sure if plantar faciaits or what. I have new shoes from May, so can't be that. fun fun.
Great job!! You are much faster than me, but I am planning on working on my time before my next race.
I think I am finally on the path back to a normal routine. K isn't traveling this week and I got out to run 3 times in the past week. Twice this weekend. It was nice that the heat broke! My left foot is a little sore, but I am taking today off and just doing some walking to keep things loose. Hopefully tomorrow I can get in another 2.5 miles or so in the morning before work. I also took a day to exercise in my pool last week- some short laps, treading water, crunches, dive board pullups (and I was super hungry that night. I think strength training makes me mega-hungry).
My eating is way off track, and I need to focus to get that back into a happy place again.
Fitness?? what fitness? I was just struggling to stay alive in the heat.
We were visiting my IL's from thursday-sunday...it was 100 degrees (no exaggeration) and I spent all of those days in a pool, hauling kids in & out of the water, helping Liam jump off the side 123+ times...does that count as a workout?
On a positive note, my MIL sent her treadmill home with me since she doesn't use it anymore, so that should make the transition back to running a bit easier. I signed up for the steelers 5k on august 31st, so I have just a bit over a month to get my sorry self back into shape!
Luckystar--congrats on finishing the 5k with such awesome time!!
Jake - 1.15.08
Liam - 5.17.11
Congrats on your race!
And Emmy, I definitely think that swimming with kids is a workout! It's certainly not lounging on a raft sipping fruity beverages!
I am figuring out my new routine this week - since my gym closed and the sale of it fell through, I am left with no gym and have to do something. I'm going to try to do a couple of days of the gym/classes at work (starting with a yoga class today), and I think I'm going to check out the Chuck E Cheese gym (it used to be Chuck E Cheese back in the day, so that's how everyone refers to it!), because the cost is almost half of what my old gym was and includes childcare, so I won't have to rely on DH being home in order to get to a class.
Oh no Amber, that stinks.
Is that where your friend taught Zumba too? Hope the new place works out for you. I mainl do stuff at home but thinking of finding a place that would have childcare that way if Dh is traveling, she could still go. And not rely on inlaws.
Congrats on your race! That is a great time!
Last week I was able to get out 5 times. I had 3 days of running 2-3 miles and 2 days of walking 2-3 miles. I used last week as my warm up week, and today is my official first day of my training plan. We'll see how that goes.
Great job on the 5K! Getting the first race under your belt is a big accomplishment.
I'm plugging away with my half marathon training (race is Sept. 8). Something about being accountable to the schedule I've made really works for me, even if the weather this past week sucked balls. My long runs feel like torture in summer weather but they are happening, albeit slowly.
Unfortunately I found out that the pool I've been doing my cross-training laps in will close for four weeks in August so I'm going to give yoga classes a go during that time. It's been a long time since I've done yoga for an hour+ at a time...I don't expect to be able to walk, let alone run, the next day.
On a happier note, while I usually do my workouts in the a.m. before my family is up, I've been doing the swimming after work on Mondays - and leaving DH to make or start dinner. I know this is the norm for a lot of people but not for us. DH is a good eater and decent dish washer but food prep is not his thing. Sure, tonight's dinner will be grilled chicken from KFC and frozen peas but I'm loving the freedom to do an evening workout and not have to think about feeding other people!
