Pet Owners: Bedroom Stairs?

I've been seriously throwing around the idea of getting a little stair case up to my bed for my dog, Kade (Kaaa Deee).  She's a dachshund who likes getting up in the wee hours of the morning in order to do her business...

So how much of the crazy doxie lady does that make me for catering to my dog?  Is this really strange?

  • No, not crazy at all.:) The doggus would probably appreciate it.:)
  • I don't think it's strange, some dogs just can't jump that high. Totally understandable and not crazy :)

I just wonder sometimes if I cater to my dog like that, am I becoming this?...

  • I think it sounds like a great idea. Dachshunds are prone to back issues and all that jumping over years could be harmful. I would just be sure to buy the steps from a place that will take them back if Kade doesn't end up being willing to use them.
  • I vote not crazy. It sounds adorable, actually.
  • I actually think that is a great idea, esp. considering the breed.

OMG, LOL. No, I don't think you are quite to that point.   :)

LOL... I so get one slice of the bed and my 10 lbs doxie gets the rest!  It's terrible!

Haha, the smallest dogs take up the most space I swear! But I need my own sleeping space.
  • totally not crazy! i know plenty of people that have the stairs.

p.s. my 95lb dog sleeps in bed with my DH and I and we have just a queen.....

  • We went as far as building ramps up and out of the doggy door for our dachshunds. I strongly encourage you to do stairs or a ramp.  Spinal surgery for dachshunds is not fun.

  • lol not at all! Our great Pyrenees (90 lbs) is older and has a sever shoulder problem so she's on daily joint meds and can no longer jump in and out of my truck. My husband  was so sweet and built her a ramp so she could go for rides with us again :)
  • We have bed stairs and they are a lifesaver. My min pin sleeps with us and isn't tall enough to jump on the bed. (Well occasionally he can, but he doesn't know he can). Yet when you try to help him up he thinks you're playing so he runs from you. So we bought bed stairs. And they've been a total life saver.

  • We tried it with our Doxies for the same reason you are thinking of getting them. Plus we figured it would be good for their joints to be able to walk steps down instead of jumping down. Well, epic fail, our dogs wouldn't use them. They love the human touch part of being picked up to us the stairs. We tried ignoring them to force them to use the steps, no luck. Hopefully you'll have better luck then we did.
  • I tried 2 types of stairs before just buying a small footstool that matched the rest of the bedroom decor. The stairs just didn't work, they didn't understand the concept or something. The footstool gives them something to jump onto, then launch off of to get on the bed. Plus it doesn't look like doggie-bedroom-decor.
  • I totally want these one day. One for each side of the bed.
