First of all, congratulations! :D

I just saw your posts about spotting/dopplers etc.. I can't ever get on here to reply, but I thought I'd give my 2 cents.

Plus, I know how Canadian healthcare works, lol. For the spotting, can you not just walk into an ER and tell them you've been bleeding? I did EVERY time I spotted because I was terrified.
They promptly checked me out and wheeled in the portable u/s machine, showed me that Cole was a healthy little bean and diagnosed me with a sensitive cervix. That's the beauty of living in Canada, walking to the ER to help calm anxiety is an easy thing....and free.

Also, what PPs have said about the sonoline B doppler is great, but with your anxiety issues, it may be a good idea not to get one until you're past 16 weeks (which is when they suggest you start looking, but won't guarantee anything) I didn't hear C's hb until 18 weeks.
I am a firm believer that anxiety does nothing good for a pregnancy (I suffer from an anxiety disorder too) so I hope you're able to make the changes necessary to have a happy pregnancy :)

Are you planning to take the whole year off with baby?

    Hi there!

I spoke to midwives today. I was accepted as a patient and have a first appointment. It's a start. They said on and off spotting is most likely fine but if I am worried to call my family doctor. She isn't in the office, so they recommended the ER as well, if we got really worried.  She said the ER has to make sure things are ok so that's good to know!

I spoke with a good friend yesterday who has a Doppler. She said she's done having kids and its mine if/when I want it. It makes me feel less inclined to run out and buy one. Then I won't be tempted to try yet.

I don't have benefits/qualify for time off, so I'm only planning to take 6 weeks off. It sucks but I work PT retail and teach from home so I'm guessing it will be doable.

C is such a cutie! I love seeing his pics on FB! :D  How are things with you?

  • But you work at BR right? So all you need is 600 hours to qualify for 52 weeks of Mat leave. (I just checked with my friend who worked at Tim Hortons PT and she qualified).

Thanks, yes he's getting big! Everything is great, except I go back to work soon. So that sucks. haha

This makes me sick to my stomach....why do we only get 6-12 weeks??? Not cool, America!

and lots of us only get that 6-12 weeks unpaid and/or by using accrued sick leave.

    That's it, I'm moving.

My stepdad lived in Germany for a year and said over there, if you work full-time (doesn't matter how long), you get 3 years of maternity leave!! And if you have a baby within that 3 years, you get another 3 years added on.

He said they had an employee that was still being paid and hadn't been into work in 9 years.

I believe that's just taking advantage of the system but I think a year would be awesome! Let's work on this :)

Germany only has 14 weeks that is regulated by the government. I don't believe any country offers 3 years of maternity leave. That's just ridiculous.

Technically, in Germany, you get 14 hours PAID maternity leave. BUT male and female employees are entitled to a maximum of three years unpaid parental leave per child.
