How did everyone do this past week? I found that I was much more motivated to run when I didn't feel like I would die of heat exhaustion. [:P]
I ran 3 times last week, just set the timer on my phone for 20 minutes and went. Averaged about 2 miles or just a bit more each time. I'm running a 5K at the end fo August, which is quickly approaching, so I figured maybe it was time to step it up and make sure I can do that. So last night, I ran for 2.5 miles...I'll keep inching back up until I can go back up to 3.
I ran on the treadmill one of those days last week when it was pouring rain out...I don't know if it's just something you have to get used to, but I had a hard time! It felt hard on my body, and I kept tripping over the piece of plastic in the front. Of course, I was running while watching the real housewives of NJ, so it's possible that I was just distracted. Re: weekly fitness post!
Last week was the first week of my training plan where I am working out 6 days/week.
Three of the days I ran. Two days of 3 miles, and the third day I did 4 miles. I am still struggling a bit getting back into the groove of running, so I'm only averaging an 11-12 minute pace but I hope that improves.
The other 3 days I did pilates, yoga, and strength training.
What a change in weather! I actually didn't run one morning because it was chilly! But ran at night and was so nice out! I got Ina couple runs and Zumba classes.
Yesterday was my 2nd 5K race and first with my dog! She usually runs with me so I was excited to race with her. Unfortunately the weather wasn't so great and neither was the course! It rained all night and right before the race. The course was actually a trail run which I was not expecting. Half of it was grass (and high grass at that) and the other half was mud. The trail was narrow at times which sucked for a race with dogs. You would get trapped at times. I was dodging people, dogs and overhanging trees. The course was also a lot of up and down which was hard to navigate with a dog and slippery grass and/or mud. I had to go slow down hills for fear of falling, which sucked! At least it didn't rain during but I had my rain jacket which was too hot so I had to wrap it around my waist which made me hot! And my feet were completely soaked in 5 mins so I was uncomfortable and cranky!!
so needless to say it wasn't my best run! I walked more than I wanted. My time was 33:45. Definitely not my goal going into it but after dealing with the trail I am surprised my time wasn't slower! I finished 4th in my age group...but that was only out of 7! Ha! They didn't break out the results with those running with and without dogs though which would have been nice to see.
Overall I'm proud I at least finished! I think I'm going to sign up for another dog 5K that's in a few weeks in hopes of seeing how we do on a better course!
Emmy, treadmill running feels very hard on me. My lower legs ache afterwards, and not in a "healthy" way.
I was super thankful for the cooler weather this past week. It was awesome to not have to think about needing water every few miles.
I'm sticking to my training plan and feeling good. Tonight I start yoga classes as a sub for my swimming-as-cross-training while the on-campus pool is closed for four weeks.
And I found a new podcast (Aisha Taylor - Girl on Guy) to keep me entertained during long runs. Good stuff.
Last week was not a good one for me. Steve was out of town Monday - Wednesday, so I wasn't able to do my morning workout at the gym Tuesday. I did do some on-demand fitness stuff after dinner, which angered Jackson to no end
With the cool weather, I was able to go running after work Wednesday, and it was really nice to do that.
I had my surgery on Thursday, and haven't been able to work out since.
However, I was able to at least get out and walk around a good bit over the weekend. I overdid it though, and I'm sitting in our intern office today, because it's configured in a way that allows me to sit a chair right next to me to elevate my leg on. I'm hoping by Wednesday or Thursday I'll feel back to normal and back to jogging/the gym
