Duct cleaning?

Has anyone has this done? Experiences to share or a company to suggest?

We had an odor issue. I've cleaned the source and the room where it started is fine, but the odor was traveling through the ducts and is still coming out of the vents in other rooms. We are airing out the house as much as possible, but O think we need to have the ducts cleaned to fix the problem.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: Duct cleaning?

  • we purchased a groupon to have sears do ours recently. and it just so happened that the landlords had to have the a/c and furnace replaced a few days before they were cleaned so it was perfect timing. there was still a slight smell, even with the new units. the duct cleaning eliminated the smell completely-it's glorious! they were here for about 45-60 minutes. they have to drill 1" holes in to the duct work somewhere, and cut a square, in order to put the hose in and help pull everything out. they capped the holes with rubber fittings and put a new piece of sheet metal in to cover up the square part. they also did our dryer hose and sanitized (which i didn't think i authorized the last part, so when he charged us for it i said as much and he took it off the bill). the groupon cost $85 and i believe it was an additional $40 that day. well worth it to have that smell gone.
Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • Please report back. Our new house "smells" and I am thinking this may help but we are putting in a new furnace/ac before winter so I may wait until that is done.

Man, I already miss my boiler, way less maintenance! LOL

There is also a Groupon right now: $49 for Whole Home Air Duct and Dryer Vent Cleaning. They will also sanitize for an additional fee.
