The days after close..

Well, I've brought a couple car loads to the new homestead...  =)  *squee* MY HOME!  =)

Kept everything in the kitchen because the man who cleans carpets came today. All is so pretty and clean now. =) No more traffic patterns from the previous owners.

The water heater that leaked and caused damage to my downstairs neighbor is being replaced and paid for by the bank! =) Two people stopped by today gauge the damage and told me there is a rush order to fix my place and my neighbors. So hopefully all will be will in a matter of days and I can fully move everything in a week or two.

The potential roommate seems to be skittish about becoming the realistic roommate. I would love the extra money, but thankfully I don't need it. Every time I mention anything about the new place and her possibly moving in a few months down the road she doesn't answer. =(

So much to do... And boy does moving in the middle of summer really suck donkey balls. Thankfully I'm runnig out of stuff to pack... It's getting down to some of the bare bones and I'll just have to schedule the movers to get the big stuff I can't do on my own.

... Now to worry about unpacking, where to put it all, what else I can rid myself of and worst yet.... HOW TO AFFORD A HOME WARMING PARTY FOR ALL MY FRIENDS!!!!!  ;)

Re: The days after close..

  • The days and months after closing are the best!  Have fun making it your own!
  • Have fun arranging the rooms and decorating. We moved in a few months ago and we are still trying to figure out where we want things. We did have a huge kitchen remodel which is not done yet.

At least it sounds like you don't have any remodeling to do or anything along that lines. I am glad that the bank is fixing the water heater and all that damage. Are you going to do any painting?

We tried so hard not to move during the summer. Cause it is so hot here also. We did alot of moving at night. We would load up the trailer after dark and then unload it the next evening. At least you will have movers. Movers make things a lot easier.

  • I would invite small groups of friends/family to your home over time. You do not need to host a house warming party.

As for the potential room mate with cold feet - I would tell my friend, " I would love to have you as a roommate, but if that is no longer going to work in your plans to please tell me so I can make appropriate decisions concerning the house".

  • I definitely have to paint... the previous owner left it a peachy/salmon color... NOT MY STYLE!  LOL.  I think I'm going to go for a pail yellow in the livingroom and kitchen which is attached... and then in my room a medium grey with a blue/grey accent wall which is where my bed will be anchored.. then in my office I'm going to do a sage green... maybe paint the inside of the closet a darker sage.  If the roommate moves in I told her she could paint it whatever color she wants because  know I won't be able to do anything right away... and if I have to paint anyway, what's the damage?  Don't know what I'll do with the 2 bathrooms yet.

Trying to decide if I want to have someone paint it for me or suck it up and do it myself.  I enjoy the IDEA of painting it myself and know I can do it...  Just, last (and only) time I've ever painted a room - well, let's just say I was kinda sloppy and it was pretty obvious it wasn't a professional job.  LOL...  The ceiling was never the same... or the baseboards, hahah..

Eventually I want to re-do the flooring (rid the high traffic area of carpet and put in tile) and re-do the kitchen/bathroom cabinets.  I would love a nicer bathroom, too... but all of that is going to have to come in time... one step at a time.

Have a couple other goals on the plate first, like getting my AZ sunburned car re-pained on one side and the hood.  (Already did the trunk and the top).  And I want to get a new pair of glasses too...  (work insurance only pays about a third).

If I'm going to be on my own in this, like I said, some things are going to have to wait.  My mortgage is $120 more than my current rent and since my current place won't let me out of my lease I had to pay them through December 31st.  (Grrrrrr!)

  • I like the colors you have decided on. The color decision was the hardest for us. My office/library is a gray with an apple green color. I really like it. I was originally going to do a blue wall, but then almost every room would have been blue. Two bathrooms will come in handy when and if you ever have a roommate. Are the bathrooms attached to the bedrooms? If so, I would use the one that is not in my bedroom for my guest to use. I would rather them not have to go through my bedroom to the bathroom. It is hard to decide the order of getting things done. We had some out there colors on the walls so that was a no brainer to paint. The bedroom floors needed to be replaced and the ktichen needed redone. There are a bunch of things that we would like to do, but just don't have the money to do right now like the bathrooms. We just made them useable and will do them in a couple of years. I recommend seeing how much you can spend and listing your priorities. That really helped us out.

  • Unfortunately the second bathroom is a half bath, so my roommate would have to go through my room.  However it's also why I didn't ask for a deposit, pet deposit, and am asking less than what a studio would go for in a cheap area of town.  Told her I would half the utilities with her (which would only be electric and cable since water is already paid by me through the HOA.). And further than that... she has a storage unit now because she can't keep her furniture where she is at now. However since I don't own a couch and some other things, she could keep them in my place and not pay for her storage unit.
