Dishwasher safe

What type of things can I throw in the dishwasher to disinfect....bottles, paci's, breast pump parts etc? I'm not sure what I can put in there or not. (I don't own a dishwasher I'm using the one at work, we have a very small office of woman and my boss said I can use our dishwasher)

Re: Dishwasher safe

  • i can't speak for pump parts because we're FF. but you can put things in to the dishwasher, it just depends on if it can go on the top shelf or bottom shelf. we registered and received the dishwasher baskets, but honestly they were a pain and only used them once. also, we need the bottles and such much sooner than we run the dishwasher, so that never worked out. we lost a bottle cap to the dishwasher (melted) because DH put it on the bottom rack (no idea why). spoons can't go on the bottom rack. everything else (parts) we put in the basket and on the top rack. i think the actual bottles can go on the bottom rack. but like i said, that lasted all of about 2 days. i wash bottles a couple of times a day because we need them. we would also just wash the paci's since it was quicker.

oh, i just read you were speaking about disinfecting. not sure. same applies though. i boiled everything for 5 minutes. it took awhile because not everything fit in 2 pots at the same time. but it was still quicker than finding a way to get it all shoved in to those baskets and in to the dishwasher (i don't know if paci's can go on the bottom rack).

Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • I would just boil the stuff or use the Medela steam bags - I use those to disinfect everything, and it's faster than boiling.
