Still reading DwD, but I finish listening to A Dance Upon the Air - Nora Roberts. It was pretty good, I'll listen to the other two soon. I started listening to Children of the Mind - Orsen Scott Card (Ender's Saga #4). I just wanted to finish this series. Gosh he goes deep into philosophy and religion, but it's interesting. I can't wait for Ender's Game Movie to come out!
I finally finished The Iron Butterfly, I enjoyed it. I never had time to read it and felt it was 3 stars. I don't know, maybe if I'd had enough time to read it faster I think it may have been more stars. I would read a couple chapters and then put it down for a week so I don't think that's really fair. I bought book two, figured I'll give it a chance.
The Redemption of Callie and Kayden downloaded onto my kindle a while ago. I preordered it. I've been dying to read it since I saw it pop up in my screen. I will probably start that today.
My SIL took my kindle on Friday and she's giving it back to me next Sunday. I know I'm getting the Delirium and Divergent series and a bunch of Sophie Kinsella books. I'm not sure what else she's giving me. I am very excited for some new books
I'm going back to work next month and the biggest struggle that I have is getting my students to read each day. I've found if I read with them during silent reading time, they read more. I am trying to think of a way to publicly track what I'm reading to motivate them. I remember in kindergarten, my teacher had strips for us and every time we finished a book, she added it to our strip. I think I'm going to do something like that, but make mine big and they'll have personal sized strips. Any suggestions? They need to read 25 books each school year, so I think I may it a competition against me.
I like this idea. I think it would be fun! What grade do you teach? I know I had a teacher that gave prizes each quarter for the students that read the most books. The prizes were usually candy, but I remember there was a big prize for the student at the end of the year that read the most. Can't remember what it was, but it was some big deal back then.
I teach 4th grade. I need new ideas to motivate. I used to use candy. My district has a "wellness policy" that no one follows. I could still use candy, but I feel bad. I nay buy lunch for the child at the end of each month who reads the most. They're at an age where they are still easy to motivate (and by motivate, I mean bribe) so I just need the right idea.
I was out with a friend today who is also a teacher and she thinks posting my reading log on the wall will encourage them. I usually have them fill out a sheet with the title and author of each book they read. I can just make mine on chart paper. I also just realized the perfect spot in my classroom to post it.
