Weekly Fitness post

So slow in here!! How was everyone's week?

I didn't get to work out a much as I would have liked. Dh working overtime cuts into my working out! I only got to 1 Zumba class and did a couple runs.

But my run over the weekend was great!!! I ran 5K in 27:54! My fastest ever. And I actually ran the whole time. I usually take a quick walk break in my runs. I'm so proud of myself! Just back in the spring I struggled running for a few mins straight. I thought there was no way I could run 5k straight. I can't believe I'm doing it and how my time is improving! I was never a runner at all before so its so amazing to me!

Re: Weekly Fitness post

  • Last week, I ran 2.25 on Sunday, then on Tuesday I was going to run again and Brian convinced me instead to do some cardio/strength-training workout on on-demand with him...never again!! Tongue Tied  I was sore for days.

The soreness finally started to fade by Friday so I tried to run again....but it was impromptu, I wasn't going to but it was so nice out that I decided to go right after dinner.  Dinner was lasagna and salad...big mistake to go out right after that, ugh!! I barely made it 1.5 miles and I had to walk home.

Finally made it back out yesterday morning, did 2.5 miles with no issues.  Phew! :)

  • I'm beginning to feel better. Friday I was able to go for a walk after work for 30 minutes, which was a great improvement. I was pretty proud of myself, until I got passed by a guy in his 60s. Even in my hobbled state, I was depressed to get passed by him. Then I got home after getting jackson and was in so much pain we ordered chinese and I spent the rest of my night laying down on the couch with my leg elevated.

The weekend I felt much better, and I took my first Zumba class that didn't involve water.

That was comical. I went with a friend to a CMU class, so first everyone there was in their 20s and fit (and when I was a student there, I never would have taken this class, because the studio is right outside the food court, and everyone can see you--I'm much more comfortable looking like an idiot now than I was at 20).

I have no rhythm and can't dance to begin with, so adding in lost of moves just made me look even more awkward. I moved the best I could, and hoped that everyone else was as busy trying to figure out what they were doing and didn't notice my complete not being in time or on step with the music.

I had a ton of fun though.

I was supposed to try Barre with my sister tonight, but the class was filled :(

I always wonder why they built that fitness studio like that!  I wouldn't have taken classes there in my younger days either.  And I will say that I usually don't mind it...but when I see someone out there that I work with and they see me all sweaty and doing whatever, I do get slightly embarrassed.  (I guess I like my work world and my sweaty fitness world separate!)  I'm glad you liked zumba, though!  It is a lot of fun.  :)

I started at CMU the year the UC opened, and we always wondered about it. It made no sense.

I didn't realize you were doing group exercise at CMU. Do you ever do evenings? I'm thinking about buying one of the punch cards, because my gym doesn't offer many evening classes that fit my schedule. I'm waiting for CMU's fall schedule to come out to see if any fun stuff works for me.

  • I used to take a lot of them in my single days.  I'd stay after work and do the classes.  I stopped for a while, but my gym closed in June, so I've been testing the waters in different places.  Now, I only do ones during the day - I have to do daycare pickup, so I wouldn't want to drive home and then drive all the way back.
  • Great job on the 5k, April!  That is a really great accomplishment, keep up the good work.

I did okay last week.  I had 3 days of running (3, 3, and 4 miles) and 1 day of Pilates.  I was supposed to do another day of cross training, but crazies at work and Rich being OOT kept me from finding the time.

This week my 3 mile runs bump up to 3.5 and my long run bumps up to 5.

Lisa, I hope your leg is feeling better soon!

LOL, thanks!  I got overwhelmed that I missed a day of my plan, so I was focusing on the one day that I missed, rather than the days that I did do!
