What kind of heat do you have?

We just recently sold our wood stove, b/c we were having chimney problems. We got our gas turned back on, if you have gas how much is you monthly bill? My DH's coworker said his monthly bill for gas is 300-400 a month. We just have a gas furnace.

 Thanks

Re: What kind of heat do you have?

  • We don't do a monthly oil plan, but my brother does.  He pays $300 a month for 10 months of the year.  $3,000 a year for oil sounds crazy to me, but I don't know how those payment plans are set up.

We put 200 to 300 gallons of oil in our tank each year, and it's plenty.  This year that was between $500 and $600.

Our electric ranges from $65 in the spring and fall to about $150 in the summer/winter.

  • We have gas heat.  The highest our bill has ever been was $75.  We're on their budget plan so our bill ranges from $55 - $75 throughout the year.  They adjust the price every 3 months based on our usage.

I really like the budget plan since it allows us to spread the cost out throughout the year instead of large payments in the colder months.  We also tend to keep our house warmer than most people.  Also this is for a ranch home with completed basement.

  • We have gas heat and it is very expensive to heat our home.  We have 2 gas furnaces and right now our bills are about $150 a month.  When it gets into Jan/Feb our monthly bill is closer to $250-$300...way too much!!!
  • We have gas heat for our townhouse and I think the highest our bill was last winter was maybe $85-90.  Our gas is for the hot water heater and heat only (our stove and dryer are electric).  I think we have our house set a little cooler this year than last year (at least so far) because we keep it between 64-68.
  • I have an older gas furnace and was shocked at my most recent bill of $266.  It's an estimated bill so I hope it's lower next month.  Last month it was less than $40.

My gas bill includes heat, hot water heater and dryer.  I only set my heat at 65-66 degrees...I can't imagine how high my bill would be otherwise.

  • We have a gas fireplace which heats our first floor and then we use electric heat for our bedroom and the basement.  Our propane bill is probably only $500-$600 a year.  But I turn it down during the day when we aren't home because of the animals, I'm afraid they'll light themselves or the house on fire.
  • We have oil heat.  I'm not sure exactly how much it is, I let handling that up to DH.
  • We have gas heat.  Our bills vary wildly depending on the time of year. During the summer we pay aout $25 per month (we have a gas stove and gas hot water, too). During the winter, we can see bills as high as $300-$400 but that's mostly just January and February when it's super cold.  We aren't on the payment plan, but our bill says that if we were to go on the plan, it would be $131 per month.  I just budget that much for gas every month and I put the difference in our savings during the months we pay less so that we have it for the months we owe more.
  • We have electric heat only so it all goes into our electric bill for the month.

  • Our primary heat used to be oil, but we recently switched to a pellet furnace (it was installed to use the existing ductwork from the oil furnace).  We love it! No smell, more consistent temperature than the oil furnace, cleaner, greener, and much cheaper.  The oil furnace is still in place, but it will act as just a backup for us.
