My car was towed tonight and I admit it was my fault for parking where I should have not parked. But I was lulled by a false sense of security because it was a lot I parked in back when I volunteered at the building. Why does it cost $180 to tow a car 15 blocks? What makes me really mad is that we realized they had some one acting as a spotter sitting in a SUV calling the tow company.
I know that there are much, much worse things that can happen and I need to put things in perspective and let go of the angst I am feeling. I hope that karma catches up with the the car tow spotter and tower. It should because I was parked there to make dinner for a homeless shelter, that has to help karma in our wacky universe. And I am lucky that I can pay the car extortion fee, seeing the ladies at the shelter made me feel lucky despite my crappy towing drama which is really nothing compared to their lives. End of my rambling, I just had to vent instead of crying (more) to DH.
Re: towing vent
Wow, you were volunteering and your car got towed??? That sucks.
Whenever I hear "towing company" I think vulture, leach, bloodsucker. And there was a spotter? I had several close run-ins with towing companies in college (all while legally parked, mind you). I can't believe they had a spotter...
So feel free to vent away. Heck, I'll help you bad mouth them if you want...
I think I see you all the time leaving the garage where we both park, but I'm never sure LOL
We recently fought and won a co-worker's money back from being towed.
We called the towing company, who told us who owns the lot she was towed from. Then we called the owner of the lot, and explained that it was NOT marked 'no parking' or in any way showed that it would be towed if you parked there.
They gave her her money back.
If you're willing to fight it, it might be worth it to tell them you didn't know (esp. if there was no sign!!) and that you were parked there volunteering. They may refund you.
Enkeli - I think I see you too but I didn't want to come off as a crazy internet stalker by asking you if you are a nestie. Do you get veggies from Dave (organic guy) at the market? I think I saw you there yesterday.
The lot was marked and I knew they towed I just thought since it was snowing and I was carrying a box it wouldn't happen. The towing people know I was volunteering and really didn't care less. Oh well, lesson learned don't park on Sherman property with an Intown towing sign, they totally have some deal going with each other.

Sherman owns most of York City, (including parking) -- but Bill (owner) will usually negotiate if you have a reason for parking in the tow area. That's why I mentioned it!
And yes -- I buy from Dave! LOL So it probably was me at lunchtime yesterday. I'm usually in market a few times a week for supplies (meat/produce/dairy/etc)
Generally when I see you, you're already in your car leaving for the day and I'm just putting my stuff in the car :-)
