I need Christmas dessert ideas
I'm trying to come up with a dessert for Christmas day. It's just going to be three of us - me, my husband, and my sister.
We're having roast pork for dinner. I'd like something not too complicated for dessert.
My husband hates cheesecake, and I hate super chocolatey desserts. I don't mind...say, chocolate sauce over something...but stuff like flourless chocolate cakes make me ill. My sister is pretty easy to please, I think.
Any ideas?
Re: I need Christmas dessert ideas
Best non-chocolate dessert ever. ?The recipe isn't online, but it's from the Alpenglow Stube, a fantastic restaurant at the top of the gondola at Keystone.
It's basically a vanilla custard topped with a sweet cream cheese topping with graham crackers and raspberries, but all together it is pure deliciousness, tastier than it appears by list of ingredients. ?If that sounds appealling, I'll see if I can dig up the recipe for you. ?I saw it in a ski magazine a few years ago and ripped it out to treasure forever
?
I love chocolate yule log cakes for Christmas dinner, but I don't know if that's too much chocolate for you.
What about apple tarte tatin? It's not that difficult to make (it's like upside down apple pie with caramelized apples), but it's sooo good. Especially when topped with vanilla ice cream!

I know you said not too much chocolate, but I would just die if I didn't suggest my MIL's Death by Chocolate, which she makes for Christmas and Easter. Here's a recipe:

She replaces the coffee with Kahlua. It's awesome.
Here are a few I'm considering taking to Christmas dinner at my in-laws:

Yes, this is chocolate-y, but it has gingersnap crust, crystallized ginger, and black pepper! Might be fun and different, and a small slice might not be too overwhelming.

Thanks everyone!
I love the idea of a tarte tatin. I think that's what I'll do. Easy and not so huge and heavy that I won't mind the leftovers hanging around the house for a couple days.
Perhaps if I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll make my own ice cream this weekend. I've got a recipe for sage ice cream that I've been dying to try, and I bet it would go with apple tart tatin perfectly.
