Yay, Hawaii!
Yay for people scheduling conferences in Hawaii so grad students can spend a week in Honolulu. Sure, it's for work but at least it's a nice location and hopefully I can get some sun while there. I just booked tonight for later in the spring.
I really don't like flying and I'm not looking forward to the long flights at all.

I usually fly short flights on Southwest and I had no idea airlines aren't giving food any more. I have a 9 hour flight with no food.

Yes, the long flight isn't fun, ours from LA to Tahiti was 8 hours. Is Hawaii around 6 or is it just as long? If you're flying overnight, I really suggest taking some Benadryl or something. I had a horrible time "sleeping" and was basically up the entire time watching the ocean move by at a snail pace on the map and flipping between movies.?

Yay for conferences! I miss those days. You will have to skip out on sessions to doing some sight seeing
People at work usually fly the TX to HI flight, it isn't that bad. They will probably offer to sell you expensive box meals. That is what they did on our last flight, so be prepared to pack.

I totally plan on sight seeing, even if it makes me a bad student, I can't take that many talks in a day any way.

I'm the same way about flying...I hate it! Our flight to Aruba was torture. I get real sick if I read or do anything so I just sit there and TRY to sleep.
