how have I missed these oreo truffles??

I just googled the recipe and they look SO delightful!!

Re: how have I missed these oreo truffles??

  • They are delicious!

I also am making them with mint oreos.

And the following variations if you want to try them:

    Red Velvet Truffles

1 box red velvet cake mix (cook as directed on box for 13 X 9 cake)
1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz.)
1 package chocolate bark (regular or white chocolate)
    wax paper

    1. After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into large bowl.
    2. Mix thoroughly with 1 can cream cheese frosting. (It may be easier to use fingers to mix together, but be warned it will get messy.)
    3. Roll mixture into quarter size balls and lay on cookie sheet.
    4. Chill for several hours - make sure they are really firm. (You can speed this up by putting in the freezer.)
    5. Melt chocolate in microwave per directions on package.
    6. Roll balls in chocolate and lay on wax paper until firm. (Use a spoon to dip and roll in chocolate and then tap off extra - two forks also works great if your chocolate is warm enough.)
    7. Drizzle with extra chocolate bark (I used melted semisweet chocolate to drizzle on top.)

    Nutter Butter Truffles

     1 box of cream cheese

1 package Nutter Butters (take about five out of the package and set aside-you won't need them)

    Semi-sweet Baker's chocolate

Place Nutter Butter cookies in a food processor and crush finely. Mix with cream cheese. Form into one inch balls and dip in melted chocolate. Place truffles on cookie sheet lined with wax paper.

I usually put my truffles in the freezer because they keep longer that way. But, you can put them in the fridge if you prefer them that way.

    Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1 stick softened butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/4 cup flour
    1/2 cup miniature chocolate chips
12 oz of Chocolate Almond Bark

    DIRECTIONS
Soften your butter and add the sugars, vanilla, flour and then chocolate chips.

Put into freezer for 30 minutes.

Take out and roll into 1 inch balls and place on wax paper.

Put back in freezer for 15 minutes.

    Meanwhile melt your chocolate bark

Remove balls from freezer and dip each one in chocolate using a fork.

Tap the fork on the side to remove excess chocolate.

  • They've become a huge hit at my work since I made them. They're so good and easy!

Stacey, thanks for posting the variations, I'll have to try them!?

  • I made Paula Deen's Cookie Dough Truffles for the first time this year, and I have to say that they are absolutely sinful.  So good.  I gave a few to each of my co-workers, and they all LOVED them.  Recipe can be found at this link or I've copied it below.  I used 1 1/4 cups mini chocolate chips instead of mixing chocolate chips and pecans.  Also, I melted milk chocolate chips for the coating rather than trying to find chocolate bark.  So good :)

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paulas-best-dishes/cookie-dough-truffles-recipe/index.html

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
    • 1/2 cup semisweet mini chocolate morsels
    • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
    • 1 1/2 pounds chocolate bark candy coating, melted

    Directions

In a large bowl cream butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add vanilla. Gradually beat in flour and add milk. Add chocolate morsels and pecans, mixing well. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on waxed paper; chill 2 hours.

*Cook's Note: Since the dough is sticky, roll your fingers into flour. This will make it easier to roll.

Melt chocolate bark candy coating in a double boiler. Using 2 forks, dip cookie balls into candy coating to cover. Place on waxed paper and chill to set. Store in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour

  • These things are the *best*!!!  I made 6 dozen Candy Cane Oreo Truffles last weekend for my parents' upcoming holiday open house and the candy cane flavor was fantastic.  I JUST baked a red velvet cake tonight in anticipation of making cake balls tomorrow night when I get home from work, and I'll be making another batch of the Candy Cane Oreo Truffles again on Sunday for a luncheon at work on Monday.

Um, needless to say, the recipe (and its variations) are a popular one in my family/at work. :)

And I MUST try the cookie dough truffles - in fact, I think they might have just been put on the agenda for pre-Christmas baking to take to relatives' houses with us!

  • YUM - thanks for the variations, too!! I was thinking of trying it with the mint oreos, so I might have to go for that now:) Has anyone tried it with lower fat stuff? I was thinking of doing reduced fat oreos, lite cream cheese and still regular white or milk chocolate on the outside and making them smaller. And I'll cross my fingers that they're still edible - hopefully they'll be just fine;)
  • I just made them for the first time for a work luncheon yesterday.  They were a huge hit.  I definitely need to try some of those variations, especially the cookie dough one!  The Kraft website also has a version I want to try that's just cream cheese and chocolate (http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/simply-sensational-truffles-107529.aspx?cm_re=1-_-1-_-HPROTW). Just in case anyone wanted yet another truffle option!  I'm going to make that one for Christmas Eve since it's gluten free so my mom can eat it.

Can you let me know how they are with the low fat option? I really want to try it with low fat cream cheese but I've been afraid.
