I know it has been discussed but those Bump banner/siggys...

Are just weird. EBF? Who cares? At the risk of starting baby wars again, what is next?

I just think I need to move away from the baby boards. Maybe I will tie some red string to my fingers to remind me when I am on the Nest.

Re: I know it has been discussed but those Bump banner/siggys...

  • Some of them don't bother me much.  Some of them are a little questionable.  Then there are the spoof ones, some of which are offensive.
  • Exclusively Breast Fed

Isn't that just vital information for you to have about someone?

  • EBF = exclusively breastfeeding/breastfed

Not something I need to know. ?I tend to get annoyed at the ones that feel the need to tell me and everyone else if they work or stay home.?

If I don't know all these terms do I still get to keep my baby?

no, IF must be forfeited to the bumpie foster system until you learn every single acronym Smile Kidding.

    Vom.Ick!  I said bumpie.

It is absolutely vital.  For instance, if someone is giving me their opinion on the Big 3 Bail Out, I think, "hmmm...is their child exclusively breast-fed?"  That's how I know if they are experts on union pensions and electric cars.  I would like to petition the Nest for a tool that would let me block everyone without an EBF sign.  This way, I can be sure that the advice I get on gay marriage, Christmas desserts, home down payments, and coupon codes is really the best.

For me - I look for the "C-Section Mama" siggy. Now there is a woman who really knows her stuff..........

I never thought it might be important for me to define myself by a 4-6 inch scar on my lower abdomen.

There are some vicious fights on Parenting about EBF vs. formula.  I mean, really nasty fights.  Having an EBF blinkie is sort of the virtual equivalent of a territorial pissing/gang sign.

  • What I really don't get are the ones that are like "proud this or that." Like I saw, "Proud Formula Feeder." What is there to be proud about formula feeding? You go to the store, buy it, mix it and feed it to your baby. It's not exactly a soaring achievement.?

  • There was an E08er who had both the breastfeeding one and the formula one up for awhile. Funny stuff.
  • I think that was Gethsemane.
  • Now maybe if they had a "No, I didn't spill a drink on my tits, I leak sometimes, okay?" blinkie, I could get behind that.

How about "No my tits aren't leaking, I spilled my white russian on my shirt"?

  • yes, many of them are lame-o.

  • I don't see what there is to really be proud of with any of it!  Breastfeeding?  Super.  Formula?  Great!  WHO CARES?!  These are people doing the same damn thing all people have done through the ages.  Having a baby is not winning the Nobel Prize.

You love your baby, and that's great.  If you participate in a conversation about breastfeeding/formula because you have certain insight from having done it, awesome.  But why are you proud of any of this?!  Proud is just the wrong term.  Happy works, excited works.  Proud?

I once saw one along the lines of "VBAC - I want to push like a real woman."  Um, pardon me?  What in the hell does that mean?  I'd be less of a woman if I had a c-section?  Are you fuckingserious?

This is one that I get offended by.  I had a section, and I'm a real woman, TYVM.  The other one I get offended by says something like "I went natural, my scar is on my taint" - I clutch my pearls and shudder when I see it.

Yeah, people are losing the big picture.  It's childbirth.  You don't "win" it.

  • IMO, going through labor and childbirth at all is a huge acheivement. Who the fvck cares what method you used, as long as it worked for you and your baby?

If BFing doesn't work for someone, then they have to use formula, don't they? I mean, what's the alternative - starve your baby?

    OMG ew ew ew ew!!!!

And you know, you can get a scar...there even with meds. I don't get what going natural has to do with it. Nor do I get why pushing makes you more "womanly."

I get being proud of yourself for breastfeeding because frankly, it's really hard. It does take dedication to continue BFing through the frustration and physical pain. But seriously, just be proud of yourself - isn't that enough? No need to announce it to the world.

I just don't understand being 'proud' of things that have little or nothing to do with achievement. "Proud formula feeder" makes as much sense to me as "Proud grocery shopper" or "Proud diaper changer." "Proudly not letting my child starve to death." Okay, great, here's your medal!

And this is wrong but I confess...women who are smug about giving birth without any pain medication...I secretly think "suckers!"

  • Ditto lyss.  I was proud of myself for breastfeeding my daughter for six months, because I was ready to throw in the towel after two days.  It comes easy to some people, but not everyone.

That said, I never considered myself better than anyone else.
