Aaaand we only have 2 of these in my area. We can't afford to shop much at Whole Paycheck. Trader Joe's is clear on the other side of town and basically part of a mall, which means parking is a nightmare.
In the summer, we go to the farmers market every week, and this year, we're going to buy a share of a CSA farm and give that a whirl.
If DH had his way, we'd only shop at Publix but SuperTarget is between my office and work so I go there quite a bit. No Trader Joe's in our neck of the woods. There's a Whole Foods not too far out of the way for us but DH is all about convenience and Whole Foods doesn't have everything.

My standards are a bit higher than most, but I'm shocked Albertson's is on there. I went yesterday and was reminded why I never ever shop there. Blech. Just a bunch of white bread and processed foods everywhere.
How many grocery store chains are there in the country, really? And most locales only have a few, they tend to be regional.
I find the healthiest stores are the independently owned ones anyways. They're not cheap, but they have lots of fresh food, giant produce sections, and real meat counters with butchers. And the people are so nice, it's more of a community feel. I'm really sad we're moving away from the one I love.
Gtown, have you tried the big Safeway about a mile or two down Georgia Ave from us? It's quite nice, actually! They have some of the specialty stuff that Whole Foods has (e.g. Ciao Bella gelato!), but it goes on sale at Safeway! It doesn't replace Whole Foods for us, but i can get a fair amt of staples there. And beer, b/c it's in the District
